There are a load of short videos here that explain various aspects of the different vaccines. Some are duplicated where the facts are the same for more than one. I think they are fairly simple to understand.

I think the videos are pretty basic "How" and "Why" that won't change an awful lot in the medium term. And I imagine WHO will keep it up to date.

I liked them because they were basic - never thought that WHO would update existing - I live and learn.

Interesting and useful thanks. It certainly answers some of my questions directed to the people involved in the vaccines.

I know we have some pretty strict rules about limiting posts to being directly related to PMR/GCA, but I think the bandwidth exists for this site to provide information to the users regarding a global pandemic. If moderators need to shut down comments and discussion on the post, so be it. But many users of this site trust the information that is found here, and providing verified information on COVID can save lives.

The site shouldn't become a COVID-centric site, but how can we, in all good conscience, ignore providing good information on a disease that effects us all, one way or another, in the interest of holding close our rules?

I have just filled out a yellow card as my doctor won’t write it down. I passed Out while doing my voluntary job at a food bank three weeks after I had my two jabs. I Have notbeen to the doctor for three years My records at the doctors is completely clear nothing wrong with me at all but I have now got PR without any warning I just passed out and then this was diagnosed I really think that this is something that should be looked into more. I wondered if anybody else has had this happened to them?

Many have thought their PMR or GCA was triggered by a vaccine - whether that be Shingles, annual Flu or COVID.

But it’s not necessarily the single reason, it’s very often the final straw that make your autoimmune system implode.

Although your health record may be complete clear…as many were …very often there is something lurking you are not aware of. …and it does come as a complete shock.

Thank you for replying and reaching out. I do appreciate it but obviously my doctor is really concerned as this is the first case that he has observed to get PR without any warning. albeit he won’t write my views on the vaccine causing this problem as he is one of leads in making sure everyone gets vaccinated.

He can't be very experienced in PMR then. A common description of onset of PMR is of a sudden experience with no previous esperience of illnes, with patients often waking one morning unable to get out of bed and some doctor won't diagnosis PMR if the patient describes a slower onset of symptoms.

"In some cases, the onset of PMR can be sudden and dramatic, with severe symptoms literally appearing overnight. In other cases, the condition appears gradually over a period of several weeks. Symptoms are often worse in the morning, when they may be disabling, but tend to ease off by the afternoon. Symptoms are often more noticeable after a period of inactivity."

"Signs and symptoms of polymyalgia rheumatica (pol-e-my-AL-juh rue-MAT-ih-kuh) usually begin quickly and are worse in the morning."

There are many patients who will say their PMR started after the flu jab, the shingles jab, an operation or an illness. But may of us had never had the flu or shingles jabs - and still developed PMR.

Thank you so much for this info, he diagnosed this immediately with a blood test which showed marker, I really must thank you this info which is so helpful. X

The marker was not one that is specific to PMR _ it only shows that there is inflammation present in your body and there are several possible underlying causes. I really am surprised sometimes at the misconceptions some GPs are under!

Stick with us and you will get lots more info :)

Ps this did not develop overnight but during the day when I was working… do you not think this is a one off?

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toTtypoo

I think the overnight onset is linked to the lack of activity while you are in bed. I've heard others say they got to work fine - but struggled to get out of the chair to go for lunch! Which is similar in that you are sitting fairly immobile - that is a typical sign in PMR, that you stiffen while relatively still, such as in a car. I was better while driving - but as a passenger I just siezed up completely

I passed out @ the food collection point struggled to get to the car and crawled to my front door. Really weird onset…? Was 100% well before this.
