It’s always worth a Scan through FAQ you’ll pick up a lot of valuable info - We Three Musketeers worked long & hard getting everything together & we keep adding to it as ideas/questions crop up. Thank You 🙏🏼
If in the case that you are unable to speak for yourself or have anyone else there, a medic can administer extra steroid in case your body can’t make extra natural steroid to cope with your illness or trauma. Cortisol is a lifesaving substance and not having enough when needed can be fatal. Sometimes we can be fine in daily life but have an accident and the body needs a tonne of cortisol all of a sudden which may be a step too far. They need to know without asking you, that you are at risk. This can be a year or so after stopping steroids too.
I added a message to the front screen of my mobile phone to say I'm on steroids as I realised that I usually had my phone with me but didn't always have the blue card
Look at the FAQ...links from Mrs Nails, great info on there. Must get my card out of handbag & start carrying it when I’m walking in the forest so often! S x
Pixix l bought a Red Silicone Bracelet at the beginning of Covid incase l caught it & was admitted to hospital - a few pounds from that well known online shop 😉 if you walk alone that’d be easy to slip on your wrist, l never go out on my own these days but l’m inclined to think it’s a good idea to slip it on when we go out…..
Anyone on pred for longer than a couple of months at above 5mg - continuously or intermittently - is at risk of adrenal insufficiency and potentially of developing an adrenal crisis in an emergency situation. I had one PMR friend who now and again would start feeling and acting as if she was having an adrenal crisis while on 10mg and needed a pred boost - luckily her husband would notice and make sure she got more pred down her. So any of us is at risk.
Yes back in the day everyone was issued with a Blue Steroid Card then they somehow they stopped being used & if you asked for one, they were always faded & dusty! PMRGCAuk The Charity always sends you a New One each year if you are a Member.
But now you can down load the New Red Card as if you ask in the Surgery or the Pharmacy they look at you blankly!
Excellent: now that I would remember! But keep getting that little blue card from its last hiding place and...and...I’m off to the well known company thanks very much! S xx PS bet that’s on FAQ, too, sorry.
Yes, I think it would be great to add it...but I don’t think enough people are checking FAQs before posting...I mean posting a generic question, not one with variables & needing an individual tailored response! S x
When I took steroids for STILLS aged 17-22 in the late 1970s if my friends wanted to push me to the park in the wheelchair my mum would write steroids on the back of both my hands in indelible ink!
