Lumps on head and prominent veins.

Hello, there has been a “rash” of questions about skin lesions and rashes so I thought I would ask about a couple of things that are worrying me. I have a cluster of about 6 lumps on the top side of my head. They are very painful like nerve pain in spots. My dr is mystified. He has tried antibiotics, steroid lotion, and now pregabolin. My scalp is also tender all over but I have had GCA investigations. PMR wise I am doing well. All blood tests normal and fatigue so much better..

My other worry is a large prominent vein on my left breast with a purplish/brown discolouration all round it and very sensitive breast. I know I should get it checked out but I can’t hardly stand telling my doc about yet another problem. Has anyone experienced either of these symptoms? Thanks in advance.

Get to your GP and don't stand - sit down and it is better sooner than later................

Thank you. I have a call in tomorrow. I like to check in with all you experienced lovely people that might have had a similar experience. Oh when will my body stop throwing new problems at me?

Unfortunately it does not stop - as we grow older unwanted friends come along and we have to learn to live with them. Some people sail thourhg life without encountering unwanted friends. So when this one goes into remission you hopefully will never meet another one.

Treat yourself like a Precious Princess 👸 as another PMR patient used to say.

I do hope you go to the doctor tomorrow!! The weight and concern of each new issue does become much lighter when shared with these wonderful people~! PLUS...we find we aren't alone and many people walk the same path. I love them -- every single one. As jinasc said...Precious Princess, you are~!!💖

Hmm - being investigated for GCA means what?

I had the ultrasound, saw rheumatologist, ophthalmologist diagnosed cataract, MRI showed trapped nerve cervical spine. General consensus is that it wasn’t. But I always wonder.

I suppose one does - is the trapped nerve sorted?

Apparently, the neck docs won’t see me unless I am having tingling or Numbness. So it’s painkillers and exercises. It’s been on my MRI for five years. I have made an appointment for neck and head massage recommended by my Bowen therapist so we will see if that helps. It was so much better on high pred doses ☹️ I think I have been doing more since I have been feeling better. The Catch 22 situation.

If it was better on high dose pred I'd be very suspicious - it wouldn't help nerve pain.

I think it’s caused by osteoarthritis and degenerative disc and I find that pred helps that somewhat, although it’s quite different to PMR pain and fatigue. Would my ESR and CRP and terrible fatigue have gone back to normal if I have GCA?

Probably not if it were untreated - but the fatigue isn't greatly improved by the pred unless you are a person it gives wings and not everyone does.

Something did it and it has been wonderful. It coincided with my inflammatory markers going down. I am going to titrations very slowly as I am scared of the fatigue, it was horrible. Thank you for your interest and advice PMRpro.

Neurologist would be appropriate if there are lumps on your head.

I think you know the answer to your breast problem. You must see a doctor/ surgeon who is specifically checking out boobs.

Thank you MrsNails. I have a call scheduled from my doc tomorrow and I will see where he wants me to go from there. I just wondered if it might be another weird and wonderful PMR/pred thing. Hoping I guess.

Years ago I had a brown purplish blob on my breast which turned out to be the end of the vein. The spot would come and go and once it got so big it bled. A surgeon convinced me to have it removed (I envisioned him burning it off) in the hospital and putting on a gown but the head nurse chastised the doctor, saying it was just a nerve ending and so I quickly dressed and went home. I did not have a sore breast. Hope your ailment is as simple as mine.

Thanks for replying peg Powell. Of course I am hoping it’s something simple. Thank goodness for that nurse. I talked to my regular dr this morning and he has made an appointment for me to see a women’s health colleague of his on a Thursday. Thanks again for writing 🌸
