I've developed many tiny veins in my feet and calves. They are quite visible at this point, but wondering if it's fluid retention or thin skin (so I can now see them). Been out and about for a bit this morning on my feet and there is some swelling around the ankles and tops of feet. Plus bottoms of my feet were so red, they almost looked purple. I'm at 40 mg. Pred at this time and trying to get down to 20. Very moon face and neck. Concerned or I wouldn't have posted. Thanks for suggestions on fluid retention pills or whatever it takes. No idea what my BP is. I have no GP and Rheumy is the unreachable star. Concerned or I wouldn't have posted. My pharmacist will, when necessary, send a fax to the Rheumy which is the only thing that seems to get her attention.

Tiny Purple Veins in Feet and Legs - Swelling
Sorry I can't really help you here, but I'd have thought pred would be helpful rather than the reverse in this situation. Does the swelling go down and the appearance of the blood vessels diminish if you put your feet up for a while? When I had swollen knees from injuries it appears that elevating them above the level of the heart was most effective but I don't know if that would be the case here for you. If elevation doesn't make it better maybe give 811 a call?
Hi Heron. Yes. When I elevate my legs for a bit, the swelling which is not a lot, goes down. The veins or blood vessels do not disappear. They are purplish-red spider-like veins. Most around the ankles. Maybe thin skin has enable me to see them. I don't know. I replied and then tried to attach a photo and lost my reply. There is no pain associated with this. Because of my very moon face and neck, I feel that I am retaining fluid, although I do know that moon face is common. Hopefully, the photo is now attached. It's of the right ankle inside; outside looks about the same. Both feet. I think a trip into a Walk-in Clinic tomorrow after the dentist appointment is in order just to get EVERYTHING checked out. I so appreciate your quick reply. Thank you.
I've had veins like that for many years. 🤷♂️ However if this is a sudden new thing for you it's probably just as well to get it checked out, and also ask why you had swelling in the lower part of your leg. I bought a couple of elastic braces to wear when I hurt my knee, but hadn't needed to use one for quite a long time, and one day a few months ago it was hurting a bit so I wore a brace all day not thinking that over the past year I'd built up my muscle tone again. When I went to take the brace off in the evening I was horrified to see that my lower leg, especially the ankle and foot, had swelled up significantly. I did not even recognise my own leg. It didn't get entirely back to normal for a couple of days! It was a purely mechanical issue of having worn a too-tight brace which restricted the passage of fluids in my leg, Wll not make that mistake again.
Thank you m'dear. I'm going to have it checked. The veins are more than they were. Swelling around ankles is recent though...but usually when I've walked around stores or what have you and only a couple of times. Keep in mind that most of the time I was working while sitting and that is not good either. Not working at the moment but will be returning when I get this Pred back to lower levels. Appreciate you.
yiu may want to try compression knee highs if you will be sitting or standing for long periods of time. It will keep swelling down and is very good for circulation. I use them and find them helpful.
It is wise to be checked out for sure. I developed the same issue when I was on high doses, 60,50 and 40. I had spider veins, but I'd never had the swelling. I used to wear Circaid M-L compression hose that just came to the knee. Wow, it really made a difference; no more puffy ankles or the tops of my feet. Even though I'm on a much lower dose now, I still wear them about every other day...they really kind of massage your calf too. 💞
hi! Have you any neuropathy? I have with similar symptoms. Doc gave me a mild diuretic which I only need every few days. Also am wearing compression Sox. Try to elevate 20 min at least once a day. Good luck, hope you get help soon!
I haven't felt my feet for years; I have neuropathy and myopathy. I, too, take a low-dose diuretic. I take 20mg of furosemide twice weekly for two weeks, then skip two weeks. For me, that delivery works. If I took it regularly, I would have more leg cramps...plus it is nice to get out of the bathroom...loo....occasionally.💞
