It may not be PMR.

But I have used Homeopathy for various things some serious and some not for 40yrs and so has my family and I have defeated PMR and now do not need Prednisone. It took a bit of perseverance but now good for the last 14 months. Always consult with a registered and qualified Homeopath. You could check my previous posts and some others here have used it successfully.

Hello, what dose were you on and what were the side effects?

Short answer: No, If there were anything successful none of us would be taking pred.

I even know a couple of homeopathic practitioners who took pred for PMR and GCA. They DID use homeopathic remedies to help counteract the adverse effects.

But as Snazzy asks - what dose and what happened? Most of the side effects can be mitigated or even avoided when you know how. I had plenty at one time but while some were horrible it never put me off pred enough to want to stop - I had 5 years of PMR pain without pred and I can't face going back there.

How you managed for five years I cannot imagine! I had four months with no diagnosis and during that time I became progressively infirm until the 'miracle' of pred occurred within hours.

I got my money's worth out of off-peak membership of a local gym! I fell out of bed, putting my swimsuit on with t-shirt and joggers and struggled to the car and the gym. I showered there before an aquafit class. After which I could move, even if it hurt. Pilates and Iyengha yoga also had a great effect. I don't think I was ever pain-free though.

I salute you. I could never have driven: I would have been a danger to others as well as myself. Couldn't even lift hand to mouth. After diagnosis and Pred I gradually became a different person. My most striking memory is the day I realised I was in a different headspace and my mind felt 'free' : I can't describe the feeling any other way. That was also probably the day I realised how far I had come. We could fill volumes with our different -and sometimes shared-experiences.

Hi, i have Just read a book, by Kate Gilbert, all about PMR etc. She tried and says it helps her to drink Pure Aloe Vera Juice. She took it for around 4 months.I have used the real thing on sunburn , insect bites etc, which truly has healing powers, So on Monday started my first bottle, its worth a try good luck !

DorsetLady profile image

Yes she did, but it should be put into context -

Kate was down to 5mg and 3 years into PMR…..and over 4 months when using AV juice she did decrease to 1mg.

In her own words when asked if aloe vera juice helped - “I really don’t know. It might have, but I do not know how I might have been if I had not taken it”, and she agrees she might have been getting better anyway. But it was worth trying.

By all means try it yourself and see how you get on, and report back..always good to know.

I know you aren’t saying it, but we wouldn’t want anyone to assume that aloe vera juice is a replacement for Pred which is what the originator of this post is really asking.

No I know you’ve weren’t, but others may, out of desperation not to take steroids, think that.

I would say anything is worth a try, but I have had it for 15 yrs and I haven’t found anything that effect that would make me give up my steroids. I feel the main evidence based advice is having the anti inflammatory diet. Continue to go walking , and a glass of wine in evenings to help the muscles relax . Hope you find your comfort zone soon

Just one glass? Even more relaxed - and no longer care if it hurts- on 2. :)

Are you aware that untreated PMR can lead to GCA?

What sort of side effects?

I have a golfing friend who told me he had PMR and refused steroids. He was using HOT HEMP CREAM from Amazon I can't vouch for it or confirm that he had actually got PMR but he's 82 and is back playing golf after 3 months using the cream massaged into his legs arms and shoulders. Good luck

I think most of us find that pred has some nasty side effects. On the other hand I was actually able to start getting back into the land of the living and would have put up with virtually anything to help the pain. Perhaps you do not have bad PMR?

I feel silly but what is PMR?

Polymyalgia Rheumatica!

You obviously don’t have it, so are you looking for someone else or stumble upon us by accident.

I read that brussels sprouts are anti-inflammatory and have been craving them for months but they are now out of season.Vitamin C tablets, Vitamin E capsules, Calcium tablets- seem to make no difference.

I have been craving Ribena!!!! ...and now read -"What does Ribena do for the body?

In addition to acting as antioxidants and fighting free radicals, they may offer anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, and anti-cancer benefits. They are considered vitamin superstar. Blackcurrants have been shown to have more anthocyanins than almost any other fruit or vegetable.

(I do not own shares in Ribena or Zengarden)

...and garlic is supposed to be good for everything.

Are they in season in....Switzerland? If so, I may move. :)OMG- don't tell what all went in the Ribena mix!!!!! (Brussel Sprouts?)

Italy - no, they all arrive everywhere from Belgium and The Netherlands. The season seems very long here but Italy becomes very "local" in the summer - the local Spar has almost entirely "produced in Italy" fresh produce.
