My optician has diagnosed a small haemorrhage in my left eye and thinks that this could be due to the prednisalone that I'm taking for PMR. She will be asking the doctor to carry out blood tests. My steroids have just been reduced from 15mg to 12.5 mg. Has anybody had a similar problem with prednisalone and if so is the haemorrhage likely to disappear soon with the reduction in steroids. I'd be grateful for any advice on this.

When your GP gets in touch, I would be asking for a referral to an Consultant Ophthalmologist as soon as possible. I find with eyes that they are best when you have either PMR or possible GCA. You don't have to have all the warning signs of GCA but I would take no chances.
However others with more knowledge will be along shortly.
Hi Bluepuddy, would, agree with Jinasc, but would probably be ringing my doctor ASAP rather than waiting to hear from them. Eyes are too important to mess about with.
Yes, this would be a good idea. Thank you.
Do you mean internally or the common when on Pred subconjunctival sort like this? patient.info/eye-care/eye-p...
Pred makes the delicate, tiny blood vessels fragile and prone to bleeds.
Coincidentally, I had one of those three days ago. Got up...all fine. Two hours later I looked in mirror and inner white of right eye was all red and bloodshot. By next morning it had all cleared!
That 's good news.
It 's an internal haemorrhage. The optician did say, however, that it's a small one.
Where is the haemorrhage? Is it on the retina? Or visible on the outside of the eye?
It isn't visible on the outside. I think it must be on the retina.
I have been taking prednisolone for nearly two years and six months ago had a bleed from the retinal vein. It affected my vision but so far I haven`t needed any treatment.
