Hi, I've not been on this site for a while as my PMR seemed to be under control. However, I have had to stop all steroids as I'm having to have my right shoulder re-replaced after trouble with pain. Just lately I have experienced very dry and sore eyes; my right eye even becoming infected. That eye is difficult to open at times and I'm worried that it may be GCA. Can anyone tell me the symptoms of GCA and wether I should get it checked?
Thanks for any help and "Happy New Year!"

However - it does sound as if you need medical advice as it may be an infection that needs treating. And if it IS a severe infection - that could put your operation at risk until it is cleared up as the infection could spread to the joint.
I too suffer with dry eyes and find that taking flaxseed oil capsules help. Has to be cold pressed. It takes a couple of weeks to “kick in” but has been life changing for me.
Hi BPLady, has your rheumatologist considered Sjorgen's Disease? I have lots of PMR symptoms, but eventually diagnosed with Sjorgen's. Sore eyes and painful joints are among many symptoms. Unfortunately, as a result of the Sjorgen's, I now have pulmonary fibrosis. I also had replacement shoulder surgery last April and it has been a great improvement. First 6 months might be tough, but well worth it. Good luck!
Hiya. I have very dry, irritated eyes, not infected though. Ophthalmologist said it was blepharitis, which affects the oil glands in your lower lids. He prescribed Tobradex for 4 weeks which contains a steroid and an antibiotic. Worked wonders. Also, Olopatadine drops 2.5, one drop per day, aka Pat-a-day. He recommended warm compresses on both eyes a couple of times a day and then gently massaging the bottom lids. Works well, but still with the dry eye. I would still get your eyes checked out though.
