Going forwards...I hope

Had an optimistic phone appointment with my GP yesterday. I explained to him about this forum and how supportive and informative it is. He was very interested. I spoke to him about the idea of splitting the dose and dead slow tapering , he was surprised and said' Not a lot is generally known about PMR'....I assume he was including doctors in this! He changed my pred to the coated one and added Vit D with calcium to my medication. He also is arranging a bone scan. I was pleased to be able to speak confidently with him about PMR which is all thanks to this wonderful group, thank you all

Good result....hang on to him.....oh definitely including doctors 😊.

By golly their collective ears must burn sometimes. 😳

Haha, he is quite new to our surgery, but he has helped me through some stressful times recently. I hope he stays, he is also good at organising appointments for my husbands follow ups after colon cancer surgery and chemo, I hope he stays !

Thumbs up to your GP for listening and to you for having the confidence to enlighten him.

Bet he is youngish and is not old enough to have developed a 'god complex'. Hopefully that will never happen.

Love it when you get a chance to educate medics. As DL says stick with him like glue.

We have been very lucky with our GPs, our last one retired and although old school was very up to date with stuff. He was quick off the mark to refer me to the assisted conception unit and I have been lucky enough to have two sons through this. You are right ! The new one is youngish and very approachable, hope he stays !

No - not generally maybe, but the experiences of well in excess of 10,000 patients should inform knowledge shouldn't they?

He can join PMRGCAuk as a professional member I seem to remember

Looks like he has ticked all the boxes of a good GP for PMR. Lucky you.
