Think I might have overdone things!

On Friday I went for a short walk as it was such a nice day, only half a mile round the block. Felt a bit tired when I got back but a sit down and a coffee revived me! Saturday I mowed the grass ( can’t call it a lawn as there’s too many weeds) it only takes about 30 minutes . No problems afterwards but today I feel a bit lightheaded , headaches and tired. 🙁

Have a good rest today then, and maybe tomorrow.

Maybe on next walk, find a seat half way round, and as for the lawn, have a break half way through..... for the next few times anyway.

You need built up any activity initially.

Noticed that last post you were concerned you’d reduced too quickly - so what dose are you on? That may have a bearing on how you are feeling as well.

....and how are you feeling generally - before the last couple of days overdoing things?

Not too bad. No aches and pains apart from legs feel a bit jelly like from time to time.

Legs are par for the course, just rest up fir a couple of days...and pace yourself a bit better in future.

It might sound silly, you think (know) you should be able to walk half a mile and work for half an hour.....but PMR has other ideas....so just go with the flow...it does get better. 😉

Your lawn must be massive, it takes me 4 minutes exactly to do mine!!

10 for me and then a rest or a nap.

Ahh! Not such a big lawn.

It used to take a lot longer but then had an extension built which got rid of some of it. But buying a Gtech cordless mower was the best move I made! So much easier now!

That sounds like a good way of reducing a lawn!

And have a rest day between such exertions!

So easy to overdo it when your feeling ok ,I’ve done it a few times, but it always ends in tears

Really important to build up physical activity very gradually. I was diagnosed with PMR two years ago and up to approx 6mths ago I could manage a walk lasting between 10mins and 30mins depending on how I felt on the day. I learnt quickly that there would be consequences to pushing myself beyond my limitations and thus became very mindful of this. I now can regularly walk for an hour but have two very short rests en route (literally just a couple of mins where I lean on a bridge) but I still assess my capability on any given day and adjust accordingly. I have a number of routes of varying lengths to cater for the fluctuating levels of energy. It's perfectly possible to exercise with PMR/GCA but only as long as you can 'read' your body and fully recognise what you can manage each day. Trial and error to some degree but always erring on the side of caution if unsure.

I’m the same as Kendrew. Three walks of either 40mins., one hour or an hour and 20 mins ( I haven’t done that one for a while, been too muddy is my excuse )I sit for a few minutes on a bench in the local churchyard if necessary. I’m fine on the flat ( which fortunately it is here in Norfolk ) but any incline or stairs then I really know the jelly legs. The jelly legs on climbing stairs was one of the things I noticed long before I was diagnosed with PMR.

Yes...I'm generally fine on the flat too, but any kind of incline (however gentle) and stairs also find me out of breath and exhausted almost immediately. For me, this has only been since I began taking prednisolone. My stamina has been hugely depleted.

I too went for a walk on Good Friday, but ours was too far. Normally I'd have coped with it but once back I had terrible pain in the muscle just abovegroin area, that lasted all the next day too. Glad it went by Easter Sunday.

I think we just have to pace ourselves with this disease or it's going to let us know about it.

Hope you're feeing better today, Easter Monday.

Kind regards

Anne

Feeling much better this morning🤞🤞🤞. I think part of it yesterday was also because I hadn’t slept well and I have always needed at least seven hours sleep!

On a good day, one unit energy expended + 2 to replenish. On a not so good day, more replenishing! I often can't walk and cook on the same day!
