Took Pred at bedtime

Hi lovely people, last night I took my 10mg Gastro resistant pred just before I went to sleep.

This morning it was wonderful to wake up without any pain and stiffness.

I can feel it wearing off now , but I’d rather feel better in the morning, it’s somehow more acceptable to crash out at night .

I agree. I find that a nap after lunch gives me a better evening. My digestive system has been so much better since I switched to gastric resistant Pred.

What a great idea Jane ,an afternoon nap. I’m glad your digestive system is much better too . I might put a film on tv after lunch and have a little sleep.

Just to clarify a point since many members message me about timing of doses. Because you are taking enteric coated/gastro resistant Pred, the bioavailability of the Pred is delayed. The tablets will not begin to break down until they have entered the small intestine. The speed at which the stomach empties will depend on the size of a meal and the contents of the meal and the time of day. Gastric emptying is much slower at night. So if you took your EC Pred at around 11pm that would almost be the same as taking non coated Pred at 2-3am. As I have said many times before, it is the amount of inflammatory cytokine Interleukin-6 circulating which will dictate the degree of inflammation and hence discomfort we experience. The IL-6 is produced from around 4am onwards,

It’s fascinating learning how our bodies work. I remember reading the EC Prednisilone took around 4 hours to enter the small intestine. Probably faster if we haven’t eaten for some time.

It’s not surprising we feel like creaky old things when getting up to go to the loo during the night . Theoretically midnight is a good time to take the EC Pred to dampen the 4am inflammation. I’ll do some reading about interleukin-6 . Thank you for the information.

Hello Greensleeves, I began taking my uncoated pred at around 2am 18 months ago from a recommendation on here, PMRpro I think. It has saved me!! It used to take me until midday to feel OK when taking it in the morning, this way I awaken relatively pain/stiffness free. Good luck to you.

It’s a revelation LZ , I was the same still sitting in my pyjamas in a daze at lunchtime . It’s worth staying up or setting your alarm for 2am . Take care
