Whoops, took extra pred by mistake!

Hi, can anyone advise? I take 9mg pred daily in morning and last night by accident, I took another dose instead of another tablet I take in the evening! D'oh. Obviously I'm hoping that's not too big a deal, but do I carry on as normal and take my 9mg with breakfast today (be about 10am'ish. Appreciate any help? Thanks <ee>

You should be fine continuing with your usual dose today, although maybe feeling on a bit of a 'high'! Alternatively, you could just try easing into it a bit by taking two-thirds of your usual dose this morning and a third this evening, reverting to your usual daily dose tomorrow morning.

As Celtic says - you should have a very good day today! There are far worse things than taking a double dose of pred for one day. Just go back to normal - and maybe think about getting a dosette box? You can get them for the day, the week, even a month. Load it when on your own and able to concentrate and then you can see when you have already taken today's dose.

One lady thought she was doing so well after her most recent reduction - until she realised after several days she'd been taking 3x5mg tablets instead of 3x1mg tablets...

Hi chockybuttons,

Easy done!

Would agree with PMRPro, get yourself a dosette box, or two. I have weekly ones, one for morning tablets, one for evening. I spend a quiet 20 mins or so on a Saturday sorting out my tablets for the week. I then know they are sorted and don't have to worry if I have a "blonde" moment through the week. Especially good when doing the slow reduction as well.

I started using a dosette box for my late hubby when he became bed-bound and I was responsible for his 20 odd tablets per day, as well as my own. Meanwhile, enjoy your day! DL

I take 16 different types of meds a day, spread throughout the day, so I have a notebook with each pill written in. When a pill is taken I write the day date ie today - 13. Essential not to forget to write date otherwise a double dose could easily be swallowed, especially with pred brains!

Good idea!

You need a degree in Maths, or something, to keep a track at times! The fact that many look the same, in or out their boxes doesn't help either! Good job some of us oldies are organised, little did I know that all my years as a civil servant would come in useful in later life. Not only did I push pens, I number crunched as well!

lol you are so right Dorset Lady. I was an accountant in my day, but pred has seen to it that I am incapable now.

I think an awful lot of us have done it. What you must not do is forget to take any, if you do you will never do it again, it is agony. You chose the right mistake. Carry on as normal.

Thanks for all replies :-) well, you will think me mad, but I do have a daily tab box and a night one, it's just that cos I take metformin too, I have different boxes, night one is pink, I just picked up the morning box that had my pred and metformin in, ha! Just not thinking, which luckily was ok..! (I have been a little daft/confused since being on the pred) LOL. Thanks again! <ee>

You can get them with multiple sections for each day - a lady in the US does material ones that look like make-up bags and roll up in ladies handbags so they don't look like pill boxes. They come in all sorts of patterns so I'm sure there would be one for blokes too if required...

Yes, I would "carry on as normal," and take your 9 mg with breakfast. I'm no doctor, but I do believe you'll have no problem......
