I am just starting a course of Pred. 15mg, no tapering yet. I have a second Covid jab coming up April 14th , do I have to do anything such as inform GP or Vaccination teams?

Well I would hope your GP is aware, but you might want to mention it to the vaccination team.

Not sure what vaccine you are having, but whichever one the reaction might be slightly different to the first one,. Normally the immune system reacts more to the second one, but as you are now on steroids and the immune system is now compromised by the steroids, it may be less.

Thanks for the info, it's the AZ vaccine. Since getting it at Bournemouth BIC I had the benefit of booking both jabs at once.

I had to declare all medications and medical conditions before the first (in Italy, not the UK) - and have the same form to fill in before the second Moderna jab in 4 weeks time. The doctor asked about the pred - and accepted I've been on it for 11 years so I wasn't going to be stopping soon! It may make the response to the jab less but I don't think anyone really knows yet.

So many things unknown, but no doubt we well find out. The biggest experiment on mankind. So let's hope they have it right. As there is little alternative for now.

The vaccination team will ask you anything they need to know as a check before carrying it out. I don't know if making the booking using my NHS number shares any information with them. The only questions I remember being asked about medication was whether or not I was taking blood thinning meds, and whether I'd had an allergic reaction in the past.

Prof. Dasgupta gave a webinar last week and mentioned the vaccine and taking pred. He advised have it, you may get less immune response but better that that nothing .

I had my second jab 2 weeks ago. (Pfizer) Convinced in my own mind that the first vaccination in mid December was what tipped me over into PMR (diagnosed mid Jan), I was feeling apprehensive. I was advised to take my pred at usual time and inform the checking in team of it. All went well. very happy to say no after effects whatsoever! And now, hurray, am as well protected as possible. Good luck!

I asked my rheumatologist and he said get it. I was and still am on 20 mg/day. On the second shot my arm was a little sorer but that was all. I got the Moderna.
