covid and pred

It seems I have covid!! It’s my first time, what do I do re pred? More?

I hope you don’t get it too badly. I would add 5 mgs to your dose for the duration and follow the sick day rules outlined in FAQs on this page. Wrap up warm and have plenty of fluids, lots of rest. My Doctor son in law reckons that the anti virals don’t help much if at all. Hopefully you will be well enough for a happy Christmas.

They did help my88 yr old husband; he got the rebound infection but was able to do fine; I got the monoclonal antibodies.

Oh hard luck - I suppose it must happen eventually! I would say see how you get on - and add a bit if you feel really unwell. Are you up to date on your jabs?

Yes I’m all up to date on jabs, I’ve been really lucky to avoid it so far. Am ok, headache, muscle ache, tight chest. Am confined to my room. Husband doing a great job, looking after me. Hope I’m through it before Christmas.

My daughter and partner are arriving on Saturday but one thing I know they won't bring is Covid - they had it the last couple of weeks and are recovered. A generous patient gave it to her and she passed it on to him 4 days later! I haven't knowingly had it yet - and I don't want it either!

oh no, poor you. Covid seems to be rife around where I live, along with other bugs.

Hello Alazarin.

Join the clan! I too have it for the first time and tested positive on Friday evening. It is rife in the town where I live. I’m not on Pred any more but just wanted to counter another comment. My husband (who has another condition making him vulnerable) had an antiviral last time he had it and tested negative after only 2 days! Being a weekend I haven’t bothered to contact my GP for them (though I know you need to take them soon after testing positive) as I haven’t felt too bad with it so far and am now on the mend. Hope you soon feel better.

Are you still on Pred? If so what dose? If not above 10mg doubt you’ll be considered…

You can ask, but from other responses on this, it will probably be deemed unnecessary…

… and as suggested go with extra Pred if you feel really yuk!

Are you up to date on your covid vaccinations?

I caught covid in the summer of 2022, while on 15mg of prednisolone, but fully vaxxed-up. It was like a very bad flu, but no worse.

I’m actually doing ok. I’ve certainly had worse colds/flu. I shouldn’t speak too soon, but so far I can cope. I’m isolating of course. And being well looked after.
