The whole Vaccine shebang has been left to the NHS staff, which invovles all medics.

That is how Vaccinations are being done so fast. Not like Track and Trace at all.

TAT is beginning to get on track as Local Public Health people who know their area are now getting involved as before they were ignored.

My Nephew who had Covid and is only in his early Fifties, gets his AZ tomorrow. Covid left him needing stents 1 month after being discharged from Hospital.

I am amazed at how efficient Britain is being with the vaccine. They are lagging "way behind" in Germany.

Koalajane profile image
Koalajane in reply to Constance13

It is because it really is the NHS unlike the track and trace

Constance13 profile image

The NHS as it 'used to be'!!

Constance not really Germany Govt fault, they and 3 other Govt in European Union wanted to order at the what the UK and then USA did. Brussels then said we should do it as a block. The rest of the story is too long to tell - the one thing that really held it up was some other Countries(who shall be nameless) , did not want to pre-order or pay for research, build new factories etc. Fascinating listening to the BBC World Service. I actually sat down with a cuppa and listened to the whole program. For once the UK and USA, both under numpties at the time, got it right and threw billions at something that could have bombed.

I find it difficult to get my head round all this at the moment - I listen to the news once a day and read few papers. I'm sick of the lot of it.🤨

My grandson is about to start working on giving vaccines - he's a pharmacology student. I asked him if it was directing traffic, directing people or playing darts. He replied "all of the above..."His mother is working her days off on the catch-up service for endoscopy services.

Had lovely young man direct us into parking space, then he let me hold onto him to take me in to be vaccinated...ice everywhere, the council had left them out, hadn`t gritted around the building!...I thanked him profusely!.....Was very grateful, like others not to slip and break something....

Mine’s tomorrow! It’s getting done. 66 worrying about what to wear. Airhead! 😉

York54 profile image

Something with easy access to your arm 🤣🤣🤣🤣

SheffieldJane profile image
SheffieldJane in reply to York54

Precisely! Also warm enough, two piece, vest top underneath, incase you have to take your top off, top easy to come off or stretch down on the shoulder oh and nice undies in case you have to go to hospital ( my own catastophising, worst case scenario.) also, confidence, building nice things. It just grows - anxiety displacement. 😂

I hear you! I haven't been to a store or hair dresser or inside ANYWHERE for nearly a year!!! crazy. But then I haven't contacted Covid either!. Lots of outside time... however...not today. it is 11 below 0 going to -19 on Sun with a -42 wind chill!!! wow! even I'm impressed with our weather!

That'll be the F variety? Haven't got quite that low here near me, have in other parts of the region - but Braemar in Scotland achieved that for breakfast yesterday ;)

Hi yogabonnie. Great to hear from you. Yes!... my roots are screaming for attention but better that than covid, as you quite rightly point out. Been very chilly down in south of England too.... -6⁰C in Essex and-10⁰C in Norfolk....that's pretty cold for us!!

Koalajane profile image

And wearing a mask means you don’t need makeup. I have found I don’t have to shave my chin as much as well!

I'm 63 next month so a bit further down the list, but seeing how quickly the vaccine is being rolled out I'm hoping I get called up for mine soon. It's really good to see so many of you from our forum are either now better protected or will be shortly.

And our faithful milkman who comes in the early hours reminds me that life outside still goes on in the snow- don't know how he does it

Highlandtiger profile image

My neighbour's milk bottles froze and exploded on the doorstep yesterday it was so cold! Mine was ok! But like you I’m amazed they’ve not missed a delivery despite the snow and very low temperatures...

yogabonnie profile image
yogabonnie in reply to Highlandtiger

I said above. we were -11 this morning! crazy. everything is frozen!

Highlandtiger profile image
Highlandtiger in reply to yogabonnie

Brr... My best friend lives in Minneapolis so I know where you’re coming from! I’m in the Highlands so we're pretty frozen just now and have had snow since the end of last year which is unusual but it's nothing like you get. That said there are lots of wildfires in the North West Highlands and the Outer Hebrides just now as the ground is tinder dry and they have no snow. Crazy weather.

yogabonnie profile image
yogabonnie in reply to Highlandtiger

I love that you have best friend in Minneapolis! I'm in St. Paul. but a block from Minneapolis!

Highlandtiger profile image
Highlandtiger in reply to yogabonnie

We shared a flat both at Uni and after we started working and were each other's bridesmaids and so on. She married an American and they eventually moved to Minneapolis where he was from. I’ve visited quite a few times over the years, winter and summer. I really like it as a city. Not sure I’d cope with the winters though but then you’re so much better geared up for them than we are here.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to Highlandtiger

I saw a snatch about fires in Scotland but not where they were!

Highlandtiger profile image
Highlandtiger in reply to PMRpro

It’s nuts. They’ve had to send divers under the ice in reservoirs to clear ice from the outflows and at the same time just along the road they’re dealing with massive wildfires! One road that was blocked because of snow drifts earlier in the week was closed a bit further along towards the coast yesterday because of the fires...wonder what’s next? 🤔

Melti profile image
Melti in reply to Highlandtiger

I remember in the 1950s the milk in the little bottles of school milk used to freeze and expand and burst out above the top of the bottles. That was fine, I would happily suck the milky ice. But the teachers insisted on thawing it out in front of the big black stove, then it tasted foul and made me gag. I think we've all got soft, our milk hasn't frozen this week tho apparently its been -10 at night.

Highlandtiger profile image
Highlandtiger in reply to Melti

Oh yes...warmed up school milk. I remember it well! 🤢

Bcol profile image

I was working from home the other day attending a training course by Zoom and gave my lovely postie a wave as he dropped something off for me. The chairman thought I was wanting to ask a question! Oops! 😂I’d already waved to a neighbour but seem to have got away with that one.

Yes great excitement in our house when the call came. I wore new undies (bought for last September 's never-was holiday), best thermal t-shirt vest, and a new cardi. I also wore exactly the same get-up to drop my CEV son off for his jab - not sure why.....

Hi Rose54, Me too, I’m 69, in our area we are lucky we have a good surgery very well organised 👍going Saturday afternoon, so excited 😆 not sure what outfit to wear. Ha ha.

Good luck hope it goes well for you x

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to 9lives

One that you can free your upper arm easily! A vest with a thick coat was the request from one doctor!!! If you want to dress up - a shirt on top that is easy to remove ;)

See it all year on the local phlebotomy clinic - but in winter the elderly farmers come in with about 4 layers on and never think to take off some of the outer layers while waiting even though the waiting room is like the tropics!

9lives profile image
9lives in reply to PMRpro

Thank you PMRpro, I was thinking more in the lines of a ballgown or cocktail dress 😹😹ha ha as it’s nice to dress 👗 up. But I’ll settle for a couple of vests and maybe a cardigan that can slip off easily.

Sounds like Cinderella. Xx

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to 9lives

An off the shoulder number would be ideal - with the fur coat on top ...

My husband never believes me when I go out for a walk at -7C or so with just my winter coat over a short sleeved cotton shirt. It has stretch bits at the wrists so cold air doesn't get in and is like a duvet with a zip and poppers to close it ;)

I point out that is why I bought it - otherwise you get into a shop and nearly die of heat stroke!

9lives profile image
9lives in reply to PMRpro

😹😹😹purrfec xx I love the description of the coat I guess it’s cold in your northern area, mind you we’ve had it cold here in the uk lately, and I’m in the south x❄️

Marcy47 profile image

Know how you feel, I'm 73, I had my AZ jab this morning. Completely painless, told to go and sit in my car for 15 mins before driving. If I felt unwell to sound my horn and someone would come! Felt fine so did a detour to the chemist to pick up our prescriptions, big day out. My niece who is 55 is getting it on Sat and her husband today.

embroy profile image

I also had a call from my GP, and had it 2 weeks ago, the only side effects were a bad headache on the first morning, then muscles aching . Felt fine after 6 days.

Rose54 profile image

Hi I had mine at 10.10am today I am wobbly and my head feels as if its in a vice

Did not help as I woke up with flare this morning so had to increase from 12 to 15

Not sure which is vaccine or flare related

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to Rose54

But at least you know the flare isn't due to the vaccine!!! GWS

Rose54 profile image
Rose54 in reply to PMRpro

True I guess with all that is going on at present it was to be expected

Do you think I could see how I feel after week on 15 and reduce back to 12

Or would it be better to just stay on 15 till after funeral which is 15th March and then start all over again ?

Really value your opinion .

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to Rose54

I probably would - you aren't just dealing with PMR after all. It is awful the time it takes in England - a funeral here is done in 3 or 4 days depending how the weekend falls. That time between is such a limbo isn't it? Look after yourself - never mind the dose.

Rose54 profile image
Rose54 in reply to PMRpro

Thank youAs I say really value your advice

We thought we may have had to wait longer due to COVID

Living on a Island we only have one crematorium

You take Care as well

Its not easy being career as well as having PMR to deal with .

Even though we dont begrudge all we do

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to Rose54

There are problems here for cremations which are less common than burials though increasingly popular - we only have one crem so they have been taking space in crems in other regions, even in Austria!
