Timing of Predisone

I am finding waking at 2 am and taking my dose of P.has been very helpful. Read the post from wayback about taking it at this time to prevent the Interlockin6 to get a head start on the pain.

Makes perfect sense to me...am down to 4 and hope to do 3 very soon. GDog frm the USA

Morning Gdog, sounds like you are doing really well. I've been doing the 02:00 ish timing for a few months now and it certainly seems to work for me.

I don't understand what you're talking about? What post from way back should I read?

I'm down to 6mg but take it after breakfast at 8.15am. Wouldn't having it at 2am be inconvenient seeing as you can't take it on an empty stomach?

Taking Pred around 2am can help with combatting the release of cytokines at 4am - that’s when the inflammation is at it’s highest.......and therefore for some people helps in the morning.

Uncoated Pred can take an hour or so to start to work, for some people that’s more of an issue than others.

Pred should be taken with, or after food, but a spoonful of yogurt or a slice of bread is enough if you take it as described by georgedog.

Not sure there is one specific post on subject, it’s probably covered in many. But if you type in time to take medication or similar you may find more info.

Thanks for this info. At the moment I feel fine in the mornings but I’ll know what to do if that changes.

Well hopefully it won’t.......

Siral, Sorry for the delay...Go to pinned Posts and look under "Timing of Predisone" and a green circle around the Imogene face is where I found it...Good Luck. MJM GeorgeDog USA

thanks

Aahh took mine at 2am for 2 years then read on this site that once down to below 7mgs you should take it after 4am to help wake up the adrenals. I've been taking my dose at around 9am without trouble (down to 4mgs). I must say it's lovely sleeping all through the night.

I am on 7.5mg at the moment but wake at 7.45 very stiff lower back and hips. Tel appt with Specialist last week and she would like me to take Methotrexate to help me reduce my dose ( it's been 5+ yrs now). She wants me to try once more before starting it so I may try taking it at 2am. She also wants me to go back on Alendronic Acid, which I stopped taking 3 yrs ago due to worries about possible leg fractures, I decided to take vit K2 instead, and she has booked me in for another Dexa scan.

How did u get on with getting off the pred.I am down to 2.5 but boy it is letting me no that its still around or else its just an age thing as been on pred for 4 years.

The median duration of management of PMR with pred is just under 6 years - there is no virtue in forcing yourself to manage on too low a dose. All that happens in the long run is that the inflammation builds up until the symptoms are as bad as they were at the start.

Was down to 4..a recent flare...back to 6 and will go as far as 8 if needed.

Still taking it at 4 am and finding it works well to cut off the inflammmation

before it gets started for most at around 6am. GDog
