Shielding

Morning, has anyone else had an email telling them they need to continue to shield after having the vaccine, both jabs? Had an email last night saying just that.

Haven't been told to shield let alone being called in for my jabs either!

On the lunchtime news there was a piece about a nurse who tested positive 3 weeks after her 1st injection. So keep shielding & all precautions.

Yes, l had my letter last evening too.....

“Your local NHS will ensure that you can receive the vaccine as safely as possible, as well as any care and support needed. Even if you have had both doses of the vaccine, you should continue to follow this shielding advice until further notice as we continue to assess the impact of vaccination among all groups. The people you live with should continue to follow the public health rules and guidance as long as they are in place, including if you have received the vaccine and if they have received the vaccine.”

Absolutely gutted, was really thinking we were almost there. Maybe as more people are vaccinated and the r rate goes down we will be released

I think they are just covering their bases as they are not sure if it will prevent people catching it just hopeful it won’t be as bad if we do 🙏🏼

Trouble is, they aren’t 100% sure whether vaccine affects the transmissibility of the new variant(s), nor the efficacy of vaccine on immune suppressed patients, so it’s for your benefit.

It has been said from the outset that peak protection will not be achieved for anyone until at least a week after the second jab. For the CEV (clinically extremely vulnerable) they need to gather experience as to whether they even devlop good cover. It is the next stage of the clinical trials.

To me it was clear that even with the vaccine, things will not change greatly until will after Easter at the earliest. I do wish BoJo would stop suggesting that it'll be over in a few weeks. It is actually possible that it won't be over this year. The rate of roll-out of the vaccine will depend on the supply chain - which will depend on the manufacturers and the speed they can make the vaccines. It is a complex biological procedure.

Only once 70% of the population have had their jabs will there be a real chance of things returning to anything like normal. At present the vaccines can't be used for under 16s and there are plenty of people dithering or refusing to take the jab. It won't be easy getting to 70% and even then we don't know if it stops transmission or only prevents you getting as sick.
