Slow tapering

I am down to 5mg! Again, this is the 3rd attempt but first with slow tapering and first where I have felt fine throughout! (So happy!) intermittent fatigue but nothing as bad as previous reductions. Seeing it as a good sign for 2021 Happy New Year everyone- your stories continue to inspire and encourage me.

Good for you! I seem to have managed to get to 5.5 also at the third attempt. I think the first time I tried was a year ago! I’m going to stick here for another month or so and then consider another 0.5 reduction. I keep having to tell myself ‘tortoise and hare’. It is now almost exactly 5 years since I was diagnosed.

It’s been a nightmare from the beginning- but can’t believe I’ve made it to 5 - everything is crossed!

Great - hope it continues! Don't get over-confident though.

I won’t I’ve been up and down with different doses but feels a massive achievement to finally get to 5 and no stiffness or pain - if only we’d known at the beginning!! 😊

I remember getting to 5mg (once) and it did feel an achievement. PMR wasn't having it for long - it was good while it lasted though!

Been trying to get here all year up and down and stuck at 7 twice now on 5 and it definitely feels different so fingers crossed

Good luck to you. I have been trying to get to 4mg for months, am on 4.25mg at the moment so when I get to 4mg I am staying there for a while

Hooray! Yes I’ve just got to 5mg with DSNS since 7mg. Shoulders not great but I can live with that. Prof Dasgupta said I could come off the Alendronic acid as a “prize” when I got to 5mg. I might stay on 5mg for a bit to see if shoulders / walking fatigue improve. Sleeping better too. Good Luck x

Isn’t it lovely when everything aligns and you feel happy? I hope you have climbed out of the hole and are blinking in the sunlight! Happy New Year!

Congrats! I'm doubly slow tapering from 10mg to 9.5mg daily and just over half way through the 2 months I've worked out to do it. I've tried so many times without success and half mg. over 2 months sounds negligible but 1mg over 2 months was too much at my last attempt. Here's hoping for me too. If I make it I'll stick at it for a month then try going down to 9mg over another 2 months. PLEASE don't be tempted to reduce any faster...reduce the rate of anything.

Thank you it’s so hard isn’t it? In my naive head I’d expected to be at this stage this time last year! But this is the first time I’ve done the slow taper and has made it easier without a doubt - slower is definitely better- think I’ll go even slower to get below 5mg Good luck 😉
