I’ve also added a daily meditation to my life as part of my PMR convalescence! Started because I had been trying to lie down and rest for half an hour in the afternoon but would get restless and go on my phone. So I started using a meditation app and find it allows me to lie still for the half hour. I feel more restored when I get up. It’s nice.
At that point it would have lost me. If it has a calming effect, I'm all for it, different things work for different people. But that sort of claim does it no favours in the mainstream.
I think you can have epigenetic changes to a gene. This was found in extreme cases such as Holocaust survivers and famine. And these were then be passed down the generations. But these are extreme events. If medication can stop these changes.... Hmm. Well, maybe....
Unfortunately Covid -19 did. It was found to have caused epigenetic changes in the lungs of those that died. It seems negative changes are easy to bring about. Reversing it is completely a different matter.
Thanks for this info, Elvied. Like Bunchberry, I fail to get proper rest post-lunch because I feel i should be doing something "constructive". But of course meditation is constructive, isn't it?
Unfortunately modern life seems to insist we should be doing "something" all the time - what's wrong with having half and hour of quiet - and doing nothing .. except recuperate/regenerate. 😊
It just needs a change of mindset. Many would be a lot better for it...
I’ve been using Insight Timer for about 3 years now, but have not come across the tuning fork. I like to do a meditation before I start my day. I’ve tried a few different ones and I bookmark the ones that I like, particularly the ones focussing on breathing.
That’s why I like to do mine in the morning. However, it can come in handy if you are struggling with insomnia. Concentrating on breathing does sometimes help me to get back to sleep if I wake up and my mind starts getting busy.
This would not be good for me as I have tinnitus and that tuning fork is very similar to the sound in my head - I prefer listening to relaxing music instead - mostly for sleeping.
