Uck!!!

Does anyone else have that horrible taste sensation when you cant quite swallow over your prednisolone, the drink has gone down leaving the tablet on your tongue. Uck!! Apparently the faces I make are very amusing and likened to "a dog eating beetroot". Why do they taste so bad?

I don’t know but I bury mine in thick Greek yoghurt to swallow.

Yes, that happens to me quite often, especially as even after nearly 3 years of taking tablets every morning, I still have trouble swallowing them. However pred doesn't taste nearly as nasty as some other meds such as certain antibiotics which taste strongly of the moulds that they are made from.

I have done this a few times - fortunately I take my tablets fairly early in the morning so husband and son not around to see the results! Truly disgusting taste 🤮

Loads of tablets taste disgusting! The trick is not to let them touch the sides on the way down! Oh has terrible trouble getting tablets down and often patients are told to cut them to make them smaller - that just makes it worse as the sharp edges catch! Not sure what grinding pred up and mixing them with jam would do - but he grinds one of his larger tablets and adds it to juice.

Believe me I have had worse. Some, like amitriptiline actually numb your throat too if they get trapped at that little pill holding place in your throat. Big ones with plenty of fluid are so much easier if you can swallow. The little ones are blighters. On a morning I put 8 to 10 different sized pills in my hand, chuck in my mouth and quickly drink at least half a glass of water straight down. Stop. Then drink the rest of the water. Then wait to make sure the pred has gone. I have tried them individually as meds...so two at a time in some cases, but a handful seems to work 99 time out of a 100. That 100th time I am glad I live alone as the faces and coughs aren't pleasant. 🥵

Yes - funny that isn't it? I have 5 or 6 at night, all different sizes, and the hardest are the tiny ones on their own! Not that I have much trouble with pills, can even get them down without a drink which OH doesn't believe!

I have little individual butter pots (you get a pat in them in restaurants) to decant my many meds into and like you tip ‘em all down in one and then drink lots. Same ratio as you one getting stuck.

OH chucks them from his hand with about 80/20 success rate. Have to be sure son’s puppy isn’t around as she’s first to dive for anything dropped. OH’s more trouble than the dog!

I always take tablets with a mouthful of food, such as porridge or whatever I'm eating at a meal. I wait until I've chewed the food to a puree, put the tablet into my mouth and swallow! I can honestly say I've never tasted pred in 4 years. If I take tablets with a drink, I can guarantee the drink goes down and the tablet stays in my mouth!
