Thank you will let my hubby read this ..my daughter has come for weekend and commented how nice all are on here. Thank You Again for this . you have been amazing
I used to be addicted to sugar 4 spoons of sugar in coffee etc. Gradually re-educated my palette and hardly use sugar in my house any more. A sweet treat occasionally but I can stay away from it
I've always had a slight dairy intolerance to cow's cheeses so stick with Goat and sheep cheeses. The best hard cheese is the Spanish Manchego it's a sheep cheese.
I normally love cheese but Manchego and Edam are two I really dislike. I had a hard goat cheese recently at one of my cheese and wine tastings with an artisan cheese supplier and it really was lovely. I can’t remember the name though. I think it may have been English.
I love Roquefort, the Prince of (sheep)cheeses, but it is so expensive these days. Plus now I'm off carbs there's not much to put it on! Although I'm getting some gluten free bread and crackers now .
It may sound a bit crazy but I found a crisp lettuce leaf worked quite well with cheese when I was trying to go gluten free. Fortunately I found no difference with or without gluten. My favourite at the moment is Peter's Yard.
Yes to eating a few spoonfulls of high fat yogurt with the prednisone pills. Takes away the bitter taste and gives stomach what it needs to process the pills. I cut out all carbs when I went on prednisone and am on a strict keto diet. I've still gained some weight over the past 12 months--prednisone really does mess with the insulin and blood sugar and there is not much to be done about it. I do take berberine to manage blood sugar. But suspect that prednisone over rides that too.
Yogurt and often a banana when I take mine around 02:00 ish, been lucky though and never really had a weight problem and equally strangely my blood sugar levels and my Hba1c levels have gone down since being on Pred.
I have taken pred for over 4 years but never tasted it. Gulp it down with water after a meal or swallow with yogurt. I take pred at about1 a.m. (best time is around 2 a.m.) with a spoonful of plain yogurt...no chewing.
Cut the carbs..and then cut them some more...no bread, no pasta, no rice AND NO sugar...also no artificial sweetners...clear out the cupboards so there are no temptations hiding there...eat loads of veggies (not potatoes).
I also found it helpful to only have black coffee for breakfast (nothing after dinner at 7pm until lunch at midday)..you get used to it,
Don't forget to keep your calcium up...cheese and yogurt...and vitamin D3 (and K2)
You are going to be so healthy....shame about the PMR...
I have never eaten breakfast - only a cup of tea with a little milk. Hasn’t affected taking the pred and other meds. Recommend very low carb diet - it’ll make you feel so good.
I've been intermittent fasting for a couple of years now, and like you, don't eat breakfast. Swallow my pred pill with a cup of sugarless coffee. Fingers crossed I've gradually tapered from 25 to 5 mg in a year and symptoms have gone. Fingers crossed, this continues. Good luck to you and everyone else on this rocky journey! 😊
Hi, I don't eat in the morning as I don't enjoy it...but someone gave me advice to have my Preds at night with a little yoghurt.....As for weight I try to stick to Michael Moseley Keto diet...
I'm not a zealot about it and don't deny myself a drink or treat.....but I do treat them as treats.....
Thanks everyone I've been on slimming world weight watcherscetc so to find the low fat options have more sugar was a surprise.I did use yoghurt today and did find them easier as I'm not a breakfast person . do any of you eat brown/:wholemeal rice pasta instead of white or isnit a steer clear
I only have red milk in coffee as I don't like full fat
Quite - and really not that high fat relatively speaking! The skim stuff is pointless - might as well add water to your tea! There is also evidence that full fat dairy is actually good for you,
I see your GP prescribed you Alendronic Acid. Did he also want you to have what is called a Dexa Scan? ( bone density). It is quite a harsh drug and it might be a case of you not needing to take it, if your bone health is good. The scan helps get a baseline and should be repeated every 2/3 years whilst taking your Prednisolone.
Others with more knowledge will hopefully be along with more explanation.
You are doing so well, it’s all quite daunting isn’t it! Just don’t overdo that housework or walking those 3 dogs, you can make them watch Crufts it starts today!
I take my pred around 8.00 a.m. after a breakfast of porridge and blueberries. I try to keep my carbs low. I don't restrict myself completely, but I don't eat any pastries, cakes etc. I've cut out sugar and processed foods. I do eat full fat foods though, like yoghurt and butter because I don't like the additives put into low fat foods. My daily treat is dark chocolate! Good luck....
I mostly have yogurt I like the Bliss Muller with the side pocket full of lemon curd, or cherry , but there are so many on the market to choose from and that is an easy breakfast ...
