missing dose of prednisone

Has anyone actually felt better after missing a dose of preednisone?

I was quite perplexed and not been willing to go it alone until I connect with the R.. I was tapering at the time and was increased due to the stressful situation we are all dealing with. G.Dog

Are you on a low dose? I had the same experience this morning and felt as right as rain, when I remembered and took 3 mgs, I got a headache and upset stomach. I thought perhaps I had frightened PMR off. Strange and welcome. Still doing the slow taper for the sake of my Adrenal function though.

Is it possible that even though your stress level is elevated, that your physical activity level is lowered due to isolation?

See what the trend looks like before you take the next tapering step over the next couple of weeks.

And do keep that possibility of adrenal insufficiency in mind. The last place you want to be is in anywhere near a hospital for the duration...

Hi,

I think that during my 5+ years of PMR, I have forgotten about four times to take my pred. The first time I was on a higher dose, and I realised straightaway what I had done; the pain told me.

The other three times, I didn't realise I had forgotten till I looked at my pill box the next day. Basically, I felt fine and used the experience to taper down by another half mg.

Not a conventional way to taper, but it worked for me possibly because I tended to spend a lot of time at one dose before thinking about tapering, and I felt this was a prompt! Not necessarily a recommended taper programme though.

Good luck

Paddy

I had been on 9 and was put up to 10..flare up probably due to stress.

I will try the "Ragnar" taper in a few months when the madness is over.

Thanks for all the comments....very helpful.

I think prednisone stays in your body for a few days so really missing one shouldn't make much difference.

The antiinflammatory effects lasts for 12 to 36 hours after the dose - it depends on the person. Pred has a halflife of up to 3 to 4 hours - so all the pred is out of your body in under 24 hours. Strange - but true

That's what I thought!!

Earlier on in the process, and at higher doses, a missed dose was immediately noticed because I felt horrible. But yes, I have had a couple of occasions to miss a dose at a lower level and definitely felt better just like you! —as in more clear-headed, less fatigue, more alive. Sometimes I would gets lots of stuff done in the morning before remembering to take my pred and then would get the light headache and tired feeling. In other words, It does make you wonder. It led me to trying to stop prednisone all together. It worked for over a month before I had to go back on. So, it would not be my recommendation for you to try stopping. However, I was able to move to taking my pred on an every other day schedule which many doctors encourage during weaning. I stay at the same level for months before trying another drop and my doctor lets me pick the timing. Currently on 3 mg every other day. I feel like I could try another drop now—but will wait a few months given the current world situation.
