Brilliant! What a great idea. Thanks for posting.

We've moved to the beach house. More room - indoors and outdoors - and there's no one in town now except the townies. There aren't many townies in Southampton, NY at any time of year. We do get overrun by tourists in summer...but that's a ways off yet...

Keep well, MrsN. I know you've had a tough time lately. I'm glad to see you posting, though. That lets us know you're OK.

Amazing this is the sort of positive help we need at the moment , ways to cope with the self isolation and being stuck indoors , not just when Covid 19 is in town , but useful for any time we have Fatigue , Bugs or a Dreaded Flare. Thanks GG xx

We will have to stagger our visits to such website, not just us... Just hope the superfast promises are realistic. 4 months... 🎉🎈

What I don't get is - at first they said self isolate for 2 weeks, then they said 4 weeks, now they say 4 months. For those that left isolation in 2/4 weeks and then just continued their lives they were at risk of the virus caught late by a mass of people??? So another 2 or 4 weeks isolation???

What a carry on all this is!😏

Yes. It certainly is. Its the over 70s of course! I am now conflicted as normally I would be doing shopping etc if my older friends were ill, but in reality I am in lock down too. My walk g friend has several neighbours who will help and staff at local shops will drop stuff off for her. But others won't be so lucky.

There is a difference of opinion (again) between Westminster and Holyrood, (or at least what it is understood Westminster is saying as it’s not absolutely clear) about the over 70s having to self isolate. Such confusion is not helpful.

At least they seem to now be committing to a proper daily briefing - not before time - rather than stuff being disseminated through favoured newspapers (with a paywall) or to a pet reporter from a no 10 'source'.

in reply toHighlandtiger

I don't... Neigh can't stand the gmb stuff... Morgan was coughing away this morning and Reid was obviously concerned despite his protestations its was just a tickle... I. E. A persistent cough. And all the news casters are all practically sat on each others knees. 🤦‍♀️

There is one shop that 'drops off' here but it costs €10 to collect the stuff then drop it off. There are vulnerable people, young and old, who can hardly afford the shopping let alone €10 over the top.🤨🤨

in reply toConstance13

That's terrible. And yet there's a shop in Scotland that has dropped off face masks and sanitisers... I think it was in the 100s for free and dropped off at the doors of the vulnerable.

It’s a small corner shop in Stenhousemuir I think, run by a young couple who have spent their own money taking stuff like that round to elderly and vulnerable locals. There was an elderly gentleman on tv last night just about in tears because of their kindness. He called it magnificent and I’d tend to agree.

It is absutely wonderful. And the size of the sanitisers.... I wonder where they got that.

I assume they already had them in the storeroom from their local cash and carry.....?

It’s just lovely to see people trying to help others in this way rather than profiteering by upping the price.

in reply toHighlandtiger

I did wonder what the impact would be in the food banks.

It’s dreadful. There was a guy on the radio this morning talking about that too. There’s a massive drop in donations so they’re having to think about using cash donations to purchase stuff instead - or would do if there was anything suitable available to buy....

My donations to the food bank locally ( usually women’s sanitary products after watching the film “I, Daniel Blake” ) have ceased since I started having my food shopping delivered by big supermarket. I would like them to make it possible for us to donate cash or goods to a food bank at the same time as ordering items for delivery. It’s probably not a priority for the big supermarkets with all the concern about panic buying, but it would help vulnerable people in this current crisis.

in reply tolinda49

Yes. I will be missing my big donation tomorrow. I will check the advice on the websites. I would rather give food.

in reply tolinda49

My food bank short of...

cereal, UHT milk, tinned tomatoes, tinned veg and tinned custard .

Yes they'd decided to do it out of their own pocket didn't they , if it's the same couple they showed on the new on Friday.

In the UK most community notice boards are being used to advertise people's contacts who are happy to go and look in on people , give lifts or pick up shopping rather than the usual stories about pot holes and dog poo.

Does Germany have Village FB sites perhaps they will have people doing the same thing , then no 10 euro charge.

It does seem very mercenary for the shop to charge so much to do a delivery in an emergency , maybe the local community council could be encouraged to reimburse the shop for petrol if they do all the deliveries for free.
