Follow up on does pred cause constipation

Hi everyone, After my colonoscopy last Thursday which was clear I discovered that the 'white' low fibre pre diet for 3 days stopped my nausea. So I stopped shovelling down spoons of natural yoghurt on porridge with stewed prunes and instead of feeling sick after eating, felt OK. So I've cut out dairy as I think I've an intolerance so this side is better thankfully.

But still no better re bunged up. I emailed my rheumie to ask if pred was a side affect and he said he hadn't heard of it and after consulting his books, he emailed to say No. So last night had follow up appt with lovely gastro who said I have lots of very tight bends in colon making things harder to resolve. But.. He said he always tries a special low fibre diet which is meant to put less strain on bowels. Do that for 4 weeks and laxatives should lessen..... So I've been eating this high fibre diet for months eating skin on apples, pears etc, snacking on prunes, dates and raisins, loads of veg and fruit, only to be told to do the opposite! 😖 If this doesn't work, then there is another drug to take through the hospital. Came home uplifted to suffer an awful flare in my spine so had to increase pred 2mg. Pain disappeared and I slept ok. Build up of stress I presume. Have a good day and stay safe in our virus riddled world.

Hi, I presume you have tried various different sachets of laxatives that the hospital /GP like to prescribe? I had a terrible incident nearly a year ago after 10 days of constipation I needed an Enema which the local A&E did. They could not have been nicer and were very informative as to what different laxatives did, as I had been taking Ispaghula husk from the GP with no effect. They recommended Laxido saying it had a different reaction to the stools in the bottom of the bowel and the aim was to soften them.I have to say it worked, I took them for 4 weeks to train the bowel to work again, I did have to adjust the amount I took ending with half a sachet in water a day.Since then some 10 months on I am fine, currently taking 5.5mg of Pred diagnosed May19.I do however watch what I eat..I always include All Bran as my breakfast.

Margaret.

Yes I take Laxido. My diet has been too high fibre says Gastro. Will wait to see what the diet is like once emailed. It's horses for courses as we are all different.
