Discussion re C virus and vulnerability yesterday with my cleaner. Pushed my buttons I'm sad to say. I didn't rant but felt upset that she just grinned as if precautions I was taking were silly.
She is pretty dismissive and discounting of many things, including her own health. Also laughed at my water saving activities in the summer and my request for her to use less as she cleaned.
I must just ignore. I will do now.
Maybe time to get a new cleaner?
I will keep my eyes peeled for a new one....they're few and far between.

She's English (and sorry to say has Expat mentality)....so, discounts the effect of Brexit and other things. on her and her family.
Yikes.... If I hadn't done domestic cleaning and commercial cleaning for many years in a past life, I might say something I shouldn't.
Oh dear! It seems to be the price you pay for a cleaner. An agency might be less emotionally demanding.

Everyone I know, including my family, seem worried sick about Covid-19. In fact that can be equally frustrating as that is all they talk about.
My OH is the opposite. He's sick of opening the paper and seeing nothing but coronavirus and is reluctant to watch 1st 15 mins of news on tv as it's rammed home to us. He refuses to wash his hands any more than usual or take any precautions whatsoever. He was in the Merchant Navy all his life and is a tough old sea captain. Rarely ill, no medication, no flu jab, God forbid, and he's out stacking 150 logs per day as I write this in bed (he's 80, the new 60). I go to the supermarket every day as love food shopping and cooking etc and just do handwashing and use baby wipes. I'm not flyingto Spain in April to see family as usual and wouldn't go to London by train. I think just take precautions but don't unduly stress about it as this won't help and isn't good for us. What will be will be and we should carry on living the life. My friend is flying down from Scotland at end of March to stay, but that's her choice. Hoping she doesn't pass anything on!!!
I don't watch the news. I do look at things online but then. I can choose what to look at. Until there's info from those in the know...
Getting wood chopped etc without full mixing with people does mean you are relatively safe. My walking friend was like superwoman at 80 and hadnt had any issues or colds... No meds. By 85 she has slowed down and aged physically, and had a bit of a fall. Nothing specific and had seen cardiologist just to check. Cardiologist in 40s jokingly said my friend had better echocardiogram results than she did.
I met a 90yr old woman a couple of days ago who plays walking netball every Thursday.. I had heard of walking football but not netball. I said at least it won't be as violent as it wS at school. You'd be surprised says she.

I hope for her sake she has all she needs post the B-word. Because the UK hasn't left with a deal yet...

It's difficult in a close community where everyone knows everyone and she cleans for many of my friends. I'll see how it goes.

Not difficult at all at the moment and fingers crossed our naturalisation will be through by summer.
For those who have heads in the sand it'll all depend on reciprocal things....so if UK.Gov don't treat French citizens well, I imagine that UK citizens will come under pressure

I think I'd definitely be looking for a new cleaner! How dare she disrespect your wishes - your immune system is compromised and you need to be extra careful. Could you ask her not to come back until the whole corona panic settles down? In the meantime, you might find someone more suitable.
Dear IdasMum, I understand what you are dealing with. Even though I live in London half-decent cleaners are not easy to find. I have a lovely new one who doesn't have very good language skills, but at least she is very nice and hard working. I would be worried about a cleaner who doesn't take the current threat seriously as this is one person who touches everything in your home. Still with our condition we need help, so try to educate her without getting too upset. Vx

Sorry to say a few weeks later my cleaner was diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast cancer and I believe had a double Mastectomy. I haven't heard from her since. I only know of the diagnosis via my daughter who told me I was sworn to secrecy.
I feel bad that our last communication was an angry one and yet don't really want to be back in touch.
