Do you really NEED to? Though to be fair - with 9 visitors you probably DO need a bit more!

Probably best try try paracetamol- or whatever equivalent in US - with hot soothing drinks and as much rest as is possible!

Let the visitors fend for themselves for a few days!

As said , it is better to try standard painkillers for Cold or Flu first and , unfortunately,, just rest and increase your fluids and vitamin C ( even with a houseful!!).

Unless you are suffering from PMR pain or a PMR Flare you shouldn't really increase your steroids dose but just combine it with the medication appropriate for a Cold instead.

Sorry , it must be very frustrating , these things always have perfect timing !!!!😣😣😣

Hope you feel better soon xx

How clever of you Bonnie - to take to your bed with a houseful, absolutely genius. I wish I’d thought of it in Ibiza 🤣.

Seriously though, now I am at 4 mgs, I’ve stopped adding a bit when I am ill. Somehow it doesn’t make much difference. I’d head for the Lemsip and keep giving the odd groan. Xxx

As pred is only likely to depress your immune system even more I wouldn't, unless you definitely have PMR symptoms. Rest and fluids.

When I first started out with PMR the doctor had me on 15 mg of prednisone I was on that for a short time I have had this for going on five years now I’m only down to 7 mg and can’t seem to get past that. Well I can tell you about prednisone I have a love-hate relationship with it. Without it I believe I would’ve been in a wheelchair it’s really the only thing that can help our condition. I will tell you it will cause weight gain because it makes you hungry and if you have acid reflux like I do it will also make that worse. There’s another drug called methotrexate that is not harmful to your bones I took that for a while but caused me a lot of problems and I had to go off of it I had symptoms the doctor had never heard of. It’s very scary to be on prednisone for a long period of time because it is known to destroy your bones. I have always been into exercising and I have during this whole journey with PMR I believe it has help me keep my muscles are deteriorating thing you do not want to do is be in active the more you move the better you’ll feel and the So I always suggest with your meds get to the gym and get on a good exercise routine but only light weights and cardio do not push your muscles it will only cause you more pain

Stop worrying about your bones because it doesn't necessarily hurt them! After over 7 years of pred, most of it at above 10mg/day my bone density had hardly changed and is still almost normal.

absolutely. I agree. Bones are fine and dandy and mine are -2.7 but like willow branches not oak! Also my mom's bones were like swiss cheese and never did she break one. (except for when she cracked a bone playing ping pong at 95...going for a shot she never should have got! haha.

Pred definitely DOES damage bones!

I wish I had been more aware of the damage before starting pred or at least been given the necessary supplements to help my bones.

I now have osteoporosis and am struggling in many ways!

Please ask your doctor what you need to eat that will help protect your bones!

in reply to Lee1945

Perhaps CAN damage bones is a more realistic way of saying it. I am in my fourth year of pred with no bone change. Hopefully if we can push enough info about calcium, vits d and K2 and weight bearing exercise it will mean most don't get OP. Unless someone has a dexa scan prior to pred, and doesn't have one until Dr is persuaded (in UK), a person might never know if osteoporosis pre-exists pred. That's why I say CAN not WILL. Pred CAN cause weight gain but doesn't mean it WILL cause it. Very different statements that allow for proactivity.

No it doesn't - not always. As Poopadoop say, CAN is more accurate. Do you know what your bone density was before starting pred?
