sickness
Do you mean nausea?
Yes throwing up.
Nausea is feeling sick, not actually throwing up. I suspect it is a sign of adrenal insufficiency, you should stop reducing for the time being until it settles - and your GP should request a synacthen test, however it is done where you are, it varies.
I agree, stop tapering. This may be your Adrenals struggling to work now that there is insufficient steroid in your system to do the job. Perhaps your doctor could refer you to an Endocrinologist for a Synacthen Test to see if your Adrenal glands are capable of working. You should seek medical advice. An Adrenal crisis is always a serious event and this could be a warning. On the other hand it could just be an effect of tapering. Stay safe.
At this low end of dosing I knew I was struggling adrenally when I got pain in the kidney area, vague abdo pain and nausea. I also went through a phase of being over-sensitive to certain foods which made me feel queasy and a bit allergic in general. If it goes with upping your dose and comes back with lowering, I’d think adrenal. Are you jumping down in 0.5mg or 1mg?
Snazzy, I am interested in the food sensitivity. I have developed an intolerance to high histamine foods which comprise a considerable part of my diet (fermented food, pulses, spinach, avocado, sardines, nuts), to name just a few. Blotchy rashes and hives which were driving me bonkers until DIL suggested histamine intolerance. They would appear after eating and fade away after about an hour. I’m just hoping it resolves eventually. Yesterday I forgot and threw a heap of spinach into my salad and sure enough - rash and hives. I have recently tapered to 3mg. Did your food sensitivity settle and do you think mine might be related to low dose and adrenals?
Mine did. I does come up on the forum regularly at this dose level. Here is one post, but you can search at the top with words like Histamine, allergies, hives etc.
Hi there I’ve just tapered to 1 mg and have had dreadful bloating and feelings of nausea over the past few weeks. I didn’t relate it to lowering the pred. Do you have any other PMR symptoms such as stiffness or pain? I don’t and my doctor suggested the pred might be causing the condition as I’ve been on it for some time (3.5 years) . She prescribed omeprazole and on my 5 th day I’m still feeling slightly sick after eating certain food. I also have some tingling in my hands and feet.
If pred didn't cause it at higher doses I doubt it is doing it now at 1mg!!!
