Diarrhea and sickness

Hi just looking for advice or suggestions please. I got diarrhoea and sickness in the early hours of Thursday morning. The sickness lasted 17 hours but I still have bad diarrhoea. I took something to help stop it but it's had very limited affect.

I doubled my prednisolone yesterday, and will do so again today and I will contact rheumatology tomorrow.

I'm drinking plenty of water as I can't quench my thirst but haven't eaten much other than 2x boiled eggs on Friday and 2x toast yesterday.

Good thing is I've lost 12lb of the 25lb I've put on from Prednisolone (lol).

Is there anything else in should be doing / taking?

Can't think of anything else - but the bad news is that you probably haven't lost a lot of fat, it will be fluids and that is why you are so thirsty and it will come back when you recover. Get well soon

Fasting is the only thing that worked for me. I think you are doing all the right things 24 hours of water sorted my system out.

I had something similar a few years back possibly campylobacter. Even water would not stay in for two long and uncomfortable weeks but then a friend brought round some home made kombucha which appeared to do the trick. At least i got better from that point on. Can you get any from a wholefood shop? It is good for your gut biome, as is live yoghurt

I had a very similar experience when I first started Pred and it turned out the cause of the diarrhoea was the Omeprazole. Tablets were changed and no problems since. I was on 15mg Pred Dr reduced down to 12.5 and pain came straight back and I’m now having tests for something else - something I would rather not think about! I wish you well

If the pain came straight back it is also more than possible that it was a response to the relatively large change in dose. Steroid withdrawal pain starts immediately the dose is changed and for some people can take quite a while to fade. PMR not being well managed at the lower dose usually takes a few days at least to appear, sometimes longer.

now I am having tests for various Cancers which isn’t pleasant and neurological disorders such as MS. I thought PMR and GCA was bad but it just gets worse and worse for me.

They are tests that should be considered at the start of a diagnosis of PMR really - PMR is not the disease, it is the name for a set of symptoms caused by an underlying disease and that does include cancers which should be ruled out before saying it is the PMR we discuss here. Be glad they are being thorough and hopefully they are all negative.

Hello BiBaBo.Sorry for the delay in my reply.I can't really add to the good advice other members have given you here.I have noted from member posts the ' different ' journeys many of us have on the path to ' wellness. 'My PMR ' journey ' commenced just over two years ago with a diagnosis after experiencing the usual symptoms associated with this disease.I started on 15mg Pred. and tapered to the 1mg, i am currently on.At 3mg i had a flare and went back to 7mg, before recommencing the taper.Recently i cut out alcohol, tea, coffee, sugars and other carbs., also Glutein.I started making home made soups, smoothies etc. and was able to lose 10kg in weight over about 6weeks and also my blood pressure reduced to less than 130 from more than 140. During the last few weeks i have ' broken ' a few of the 'rules' i set myself and the inflammation causing foods and drink i have consumed have resulted in a little more stiffness and pain in my fingers and neck ,but generally the 1mg Pred. has kept the ' lid 'on symptoms fairly well, but i have not been completely free of mild symptoms, which, i guess does indicate a level of inflammation, even so.There has been the odd day when i have taken Pred. 5mg as a precaution to keep the situation under control. On my last GP visit my doctor said he wants me ' off ' the 1mg in 6weeks as 1mg was ' nothing '.I told him of a support group i had joined and that it was clear to me that the 1mg had to be tapered further, and my impression is that he is ' steroid paranoid .He said he respected the advice of my support group but said his understanding was that to ' skin the cat ' i should be OFF Pred. in 6weeks.So, at this point i am considering my options and wondering if it is time to ' doctorshop '.One benefit of me getting PMR was that i discovered i had ostapaenia, had a bone density test then, and recently again,2yrs later and could see after taking the Calcium,D3 & K2 that my bone density readings had improved.I have worked all the time sinced diagnosed, as a cleaner and believe exercise is very important, if one is able to do it.I extend my best wishes and if anything i have mentioned helps you i will be pleased.
