After the posts last week about Vitamin D, I thought I would get my levels checked as they haven't been tested for quite a while. I have just been told the result over the phone that it is 106. I have googled this and tried to get information about whether this is an adequate level but I can't seem to find the information that I need. Can someone tell me what a normal level is please?
Normal Vitamin D level?: After the posts last week... - PMRGCAuk
Normal Vitamin D level?
I am assuming that it was not your GP who gave you your result probably the receptionist.
You need to ask, what scale your NHS Trust Hospital is using. They vary. To get this information:
the Head Practice Nurse at your GP will know it, if not forthcoming, Practice Manager, failing that GP & make a note of it and ask do they always use the same hospital. If they baulk, which they should not, then you can ring the hospital who did the test.
I found this out many years ago when I developed aches and pains and was on pred anyway..........low Vit D. Now whether the NHS has since that time, standardised the hospital tests, I do not know.
Hi,
It depends on the unit of measure. Here is a good article that shows the range for both measures and what it means.
As far as I know this would be considered close to optimum. However recent thought is that the commonly accepted levels are too low so although you aren't deficient it would be ideal to allow the level to rise more, which it may naturally once we enter spring and summer if you get some sun exposure. I'm assuming your measurement is in nmol.
Mine was 26 when I had my first test which was considered one above deficiency. I got it up to 77 with vit D tablets. Your result sounds pretty good.
Depends on the units of course - but I suspect that it is probably pretty good!
Hi Suzy. Piglette n heron. Your level sounds Great to me.
