Calcium and vitamin D: A few weeks ago I read a... - PMRGCAuk
Calcium and vitamin D
For some people, if they are on calcium tablets and take them and then get dehydrated then calcium grit (for want of a better word) can form in the urine. This can irritate the inside of the bladder and especially the urethra - which is non-bacterial cystitis and hurts just as much as the infection sort! It's an extension of kidney stone formation if you like - just finer so it doesn't get stuck in the ureter (between the kidney and the bladder) which is fiendishly painful and you usually end up in hospital.
So it is important to drink plenty so your urine doesn't get too concentrated. It happens to some people anyway - and they are probably better using calcium citrate as a supplement. Some people can't even take that without problems.
Is that what you wanted to know?
Has Dr checked your Calcium and Vit D levels (simple blood test). I was prescribed AdCal D automatically (without these checks ) because of the Pred. It made my levels too high and caused kidney and bladder problems As soon as my calcium levels were back to normal, no more problems. So I would suggest that because of diet etc some people don't need the supplements that are automatically given
I don't know about you - I've come across enough doctors who don't even check calcium and vit D before prescribing alendronic acid! You can have the bladder problems without your blood calcium being high though. And mine isn't due to too much calcium - don't eat enough calcium-rich foods to count.
