Hello, I’ve just joined the forum having been recently diagnosed with PR. I’m looking forward to finding out more about this strange illness that I’d never heard about until a couple of weeks ago and picking up some useful advice and tips on dealing with the condition from ‘more experienced’ sufferers.

Welcome - and thank you so much for completing your profile!!
Tell us a bit more about the return of pain you mentioned - did you try to go back to normal activities after the pred miracle?????
Hi welcome to the forum. Taking your pred late especially at the beginning of your illness often will result in more pain again. The pred is getting rid of inflammation and this early.on there is quite a lot. Remember that although the pred takes away the pain of pmr you are still ill and should not return to doing things "as normal" because you feel good. You will suffer the next day as many of us have proved to our cost.
Please feel free to ask any questions you have and have a read of posts. There is usually one of us about even i the early hours. YBB
Welcome dxn12, it's very tempting when you find the pain relief to carry on as normal. You have experienced that pmr is still there... Fully active if pred not there. Daily pred helps control the inflammation, but the symptoms will re- occur whilst it is active. Hopefully you will learn to pace yourself, most of us made the same mistake!
Thank for those very quick responses to my introduction. As it’s so early in my PR journey I wasn’t sure what to expect so all your comments have been very helpful. I think I was lulled into a false sense of security after the initial success of pred. I was hoping to resume some exercise again and managed to do some limited tai chi which I have been doing for many years, but anything more physical was completely out of the question. I appreciate I shall have to be more mindful of the condition, not just treat it like a bad cold and do a better job of looking after my body!
Hi, and welcome,
This might give you some light reading just for starters!
healthunlocked.com/pmrgcauk...
It cover info for both PMR & GCA - and although it looks a bit daunting at first, hopefully it will help. Probably won't make a lot of sense initially, but read it again in a couple of months and it will!
Any queries just ask - anytime, always somebody about.
Hello and welcome Dxn12!
Hello and welcome! I think most of us here had never heard of PMR or GCA until we were diagnosed... then it was a steep learning curve. You have come to the right place - there's lots of expert advice here!
Hi I was diagnosed in early December. Like most of us I'd never heard of PMR either. It's certainly a learning curve. This forum is great for information and for reassurance when you need it.
Forum and website v good and also Kate Gilbert’s book
Welcome Dxn12. I’m new to PMR since October 2019 and as you mentioned had never heard of PMR and I had been very active prior. I would suggest watching your diet (no white flour or sugar, low carbs) do some form of exercise (walking is a good one) and rest when needed. Hopefully whatever it is that’s causing our pain will eventually pass for good!
Happy to have you in this community, sorry there is a need to be here. There is a wealth of info here. The folks are great.
