Hello my name is Huma. I am 47yrs old. I had a temporal arteris biospy done this past Tuesday. I'm very nervous about this results. Can someone please help me understand this. My doctor has me on 50mg of prednisone and hydrocodone. Both not helping. Pain on my right side has not gone away.. It seems that it never did. Only got more worse.

Hi and welcome Hali12. I am sure that you will find this forum to be a big support and help. More advice to come when the U.K. wakes up.

If it is GCA then the hydrocodone probably will have no effect at all - pred acts as te painrelief in GCA because it reduces the swelling that is the cause of the pain. If the 50mg of pred since Tuesday has not made any difference to the pain then there are two choices: either you need more than 50mg, some people do, or it isn't GCA.

If the pain is worsening on 50mg you should contact your doctor as soon as possible - have you a contact phone number for over the weekend?

Welcome! It looks like you aren't far from me. I'm in CT. I "only" have PMR. But it sounds like you need some help. I don't like sound of the right side getting worse. Think about heading into an Emergency room. Do you have just GCA or PMR as well? By right side - just your headache or other body pains? Either way it should be checked out. Are you seeing a rheumatologist or is your primary doctor treating this? I hope you get some answers and feel better.

Yes Hali. I strongly agree with PMRpro, I have GCA and the symptoms disappeared once started on Pred so further Rheumie input needed urgently.

Best wishes
