Should I take MTX following norovirus?

I am just recovering from a horrible bout of the norovirus. I still feel very fragile and vaguely nauseous all the time, with a jaded appetite. I am due to take my dose of methotrexate on Monday and wonder if I should still take it when I feel like this? Is it ok to just miss a dose of methotrexate?

Oh poor you, that’s vile. I would seriously speak to your doc because you may need a break to make sure no other opportunistic infections don’t get in while you’re ill. They also need to know that you’re not taking it in case there are other ramifications from not doing so. I don’t know what your adrenal function is and that may need to be taken into consideration.

I would be disinclined to take a powerful immunosuppressant whilst feeling so ill. I believe that it is alright to just stop Methotrexate. See what your prescribing Consultant has to say. I hope you get better soon, it sounds pretty grim, poor you.

Thankyou sheffieldJ

I would give rheumy drpt a ring. I take another Dmard.. Mycophenolate.. And have been told if I get flu or anything I can stop the dmard for up to a week. Not sure it is the same as methotrexate so check it out.

Plenty of fluids and rest... Feel better soon. 🌻🌈

Yes, you can just not take a dose of mxt and most doctors would have told you to delay taking it during an infection. It suppresses the immune system and makes it more difficult to fight off the infection.

If you can get hold of the rheumy team ask them but that is likely to take a bit of time. Your GP practice should have someone who knows about mtx.
