Polymyalgia and Norovirus

Hi

Over the last few days I have had a very unpleasant dose of Novovirus. Though the worst of it has been over for a day or two I still have a energy sapping fatigue. Could the polymyalgia be a cause of this and should I increase my pred from the 5mg I am at present taking. I would be grateful for any advice after a awful week !

Hard luck - really not nice and actually I'm not surprised you still feel rubbish.

While you had it, were you keeping the pred dose down long enough to it to be absorbed? It takes about a hour or so, And maybe a few days of Sick Day Rules wouldn't come amiss to speed your recovery.

Thanks for the quick reply, yes I was keeping the pred down long enough but it was just my normal dose. Will go to sick day rule and get my life back !

Thanks again.

Hope so …. And make sure you stay hydrated even though the worst may be over.

In my experience Norovirus can wipe you out for in excess of two weeks. Please treat yourself gently and stay hydrated. Don't force your body to return to normal too quickly, it's still recovering and you might need the extra rest.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I'm realising it's not just a few days and back to normal! It started early Wednesday morning and it's only now I'm feeling half way back to myself. As someone who is always dashing about doing something it made me feel rather old which I never really thought about. Thanks for your kind advice, I'll just potter for a while instead of going full tilt!

At least that's one winter bug over with. In my experience you should be immune for about 14 months. I used to work in a healthcare setting and that seemed to be the cycle. I think it's a nasty little bug that knocks you for six and generally makes you feel absolutely drained even though the worst symptoms go in about 48 hrs. Get well soon xxx

I have had a stomache bug for 2 weeks and only today improving The pred causes some immune suppression i understand and i believe this can cause it to be slow to clear

Thanks for your comment, I'm coming to the realisation it might take a little more time to be ok again.
