Is it ok to cut Accrete D3 tablets in half? I’m thinking 2 tablets a day is too much calcium and 1 isn’t enough so I thought I’d try 1.5 but I’m not sure you’re meant to cut them for some reason.

I am not sure myself but wondered why you think the calcium might be too much. I don't know much about how the actual pills are dispersed in the body!

Just that the 2 tablets amount to 1200 mg which is the RDA for women over 50 but there’s calcium in my food too so just concerned it’s too much.

What is the dose?

600mg. I take 2 a day which they say is the correct amount for women over 50 but then there’s calcium in my food too so I’m thinking I’m having more that 1200mg a day and I’m worried it’s too much.

When you are on pred you need more than the RDA to be able to reduce the risk of loss of bone density. If you turn out to have problems then separate the calcium and vit D a bit, get yourself some just vit D supplements and take 1x calcium. The vit D is important.

I did try taking just one Accrete and a separate vitamin d but after a while my fingers began to ache like they did before I started taking it so 1 isn’t enough. I’m tapering at moment from 2.5 mg pred to 2. Don’t u think 2 is too many with food too?

Possibly now you are at such a low dose.

That’s what I thought. Do u know if u can cut the Accrete D3 in half or not?

Honestly don't know - I've never seen a tablet!!

On looking - yes, the tablet can be broken if required

Not sure, it says...the score line is only to facilitate breaking for ease of swallowing and not to divide into equal doses.

Can’t see why it should be a problem but they seem to think you shouldn’t for some reason.

The accuracy is immaterial - if you take the 2 halves over 2 days it will balance out anyway.

True, I’ll take one and a half per day see how I get on. Thank you once again 🙂

These tabs are coated so could that be why they don’t recommend splitting them?

Coated with what? Only enteric coated tablets shouldn't be split as that exposes the medication to the lining of the stomach. If it is just a coating to make them slide down easier it shouldn't matter

I cut them in half to make it easier to swallow them.

I cut mine in half because I thought they were passing through undigested! :-D

It would be far better to forget Calcium tablets which can cause heart attacks and get all your Calcium from food!

Also remember you need Magnesium Glycinate to get that Calcium into your bones
