Better view from my bed today. Not a bad picture to wake up too. Certainly makes aches and pains more bearable.

The best of late Autumn

Now that’s what I call a decent view!
Lovely. Autumn is wonderful, apart from the dampness in the air. Been driving round the reservoirs and the reflections of trees in still water is beautiful and defi itely makes me feel better.

I'm sure others have even better views, but this does me. It is my 'excercise garden', no hills or 'surprises' just real pleasure.
That's sounds perfect. I have a 50ft garden but the bottom is over 5ft lower than the top. Getting back to house can be a chore. 😜🏡
That's gorgeous ❤

More like deep winter here - although 20 miles away it is still autumn with some amazing colours and no snow! We are having our second dose of heavy snow today: Day 1 was Tuesday into Wednesday and the electric went of at 10.30am on Wednesday and wasn't back on until mid-afternoon on Thursday apart from a couple of hours overnight which did at least warm the flat up as the heating goes on at silly o'clock - before it went off again at 6am. Thursday was a brief respite, the precipitation reappeared early this morning and I think it is now slushing merrily! More due on Sunday and Tuesday - how kind to allow a day of regathering in between!
The main problem is the snow is wet and heavy - and bringing trees down on roads and rail and also affecting power lines. And now the avalanche risk is shooting up so other roads are closed because of that.
This is the same weather pattern that is drowning Venice ...
You poor thing! I'm glad I live in the north. I was just thinking "not as good as Eileen's view" but.....!?!
All that valuable art ruined in Venice - doesn't bear thinking about!
How do you manage to cook/keep warm - horrifying thought! Is it affecting your and OH's health?
Sending big warm hugs. xxxx
Showed your link to D. He said "glad I didn't study Italian (he had to spend six months in the country which language he was reading) you (ie me!) might have wanted to emigrate there".😂
But you don't HAVE to live in the mountains and if he'd done Italian this isn't the best place to make use of it with over 90% of the population being native German speakers and another 5% speaking Ladin! As I say - no snow in Brixen only 20 miles away and it almost never snows in the Unterland between Bozen and Trient.
Quite: Although he preferred Meran (or Garda). Still his love was German so we would have landed up here anyway!!
I think I could live around Lake Garda - but it is so full of tourists and can be very hot in the summer. Same in Bozen - desperately hot in the valley and expensive out of it!
You're right! I couldn't stand either now (or Venice) it was all so 'sleepy" 50 years ago.😏
We have a wood-burner luckily though the flat is very warm and it stayed OK with a pullover all day. The electric came on long enough overnight for the heating to circulate before going off again at 6am and the the sun makes a big difference too. Lunch is always cold and dinner on Wednesday was Fleischkaese and salad. There is a small single hob on the top of the woodburner and that will boil water or heat things through in a pan. Yesterday we retrieved all the camping gaz from the camper which had been parked at the tyre place and brought the van back too to give her more space even though it hasn't got its winter wheels yet. It is winter-fest and has central heating, a hob and fridge which all work on gas - if things get desperate! I doubt any shops here have any gas equipment left after yesterday - people were fighting over food in the shops that were open. Our big Spar was open all afternoon on Wednesday but didn't open yesterday as they had nothing to sell! We drove down to Brixen - no snow, plenty of electric and no panic!
Where do you live
I don't know if your post was meant for PMRpro or me!
Pp lives in Italy, I live in Germany.
Thanks for your reply it’s nice to know where people are on this site. I did mean PMRpro as she was talking about snow! But nice to know where everyone is. I’m in England near London. I always put replies in the wrong box
In the Dolomites in northern Italy. sort of north of Venice but on the other side of the mountains. One side of the road is Dolomites, the north side is the Alps.
It must be beautiful though! How did you come to choose to live there PMRpro? Just curious!!! xxx
Usually the question is Why? - and I reply Why not!
We lived and worked in Germany in the 1980s and loved it. When OH decided the next career move was back to the UK the rest of us were gutted. He and I decided though that we would return to German-speaking Europe at some point but not necessarily to where we had lived. Going back is very difficult, I already knew that. We used to come to this area skiing when we lived in Germany and that just carried on after a couple of attempts to go elsewhere that ended in tears. When we had some spare cash some years ago from a very complicated move and eventual sale of a house, we had a choice - pay off the English mortgage which would be paid off in a few years anyway or buy something nice to retire to.
We came to this village skiing for our daughter's 21st at xmas and returned with the caravan at Easter to flat hunt. By the Tuesday we had found the perfect answer and signed on the dotted line - bought from plan but we knew where it was and it fulfilled all our requirements: not remote but not in a town, a short flat walk into the village which has a bank, PO, doctor, chemist, shop that sells everything, baker, butcher and 3 affordable restaurants. This is in a village centre of less than 2,000 people although the extended viallge is larger. It is a less than 10 min walk to the bus stop and station - half hourly trains that stop in the town and at the back door of the hospital 10mins away. It is a "real" flat, everyone else is local not tourists, so it will be easy to sell. It isn't horrendously hot in the summer, bit parky in winter sometimes but rarely windy and mostly sunny. What's not to like? Except the B-word which is complicating things by moving goal posts...
It sounds completely idyllic. Not many people get to live their dream! Hugs xxx
There are quite a few actually. I have 2 Nephews in Sardinia, a niece in Australia, friends dotted over the world. All followed there dreams, two giving up huge salaries to live 'in comfort and without stress" in country areas. If you can - go for it. We did with two children under 5.
We sold up and moved to Germany for about a third of the income and for a year. We stayed 10. My best and closest friends are still there.
We are also Swiss citizens. I know the area somewhat. We have a family home in Lago Magiore. The Goddard Tunnel is a portal into a totally different world !
Oh nice!! I love the Autumn colours. Nice to have a view from the bedroom.
Beautiful Constance! I’m so happy you have this view. It’s wisdom indeed to use nature’s enduring beauty for steady reassurance and firm footing/ a special kind of inner healing.
And interestingly, not only do we have similar tables, we do have the same windows! It’s not so unusual in Europe, but it’s unusual to have them in the states. We enjoy them so much we had them crated over by shipping containers when we built our home.
I especially like the bridge I see out of your bedroom window. Your view reminds me of a less impressionistic Monet, due to the Composition of the trees and the bridge...
Lovely view 🌸
