So do we just give in and loaf? If I could get rid of the guilt I'd be okay with that actually!

in reply to HeronNS

Hmmm, I didn't think the study was implying that we give into it... but, I believe, it's nice just knowing there's a "scientific," reason for it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'd rather feel that it's okay not to be working my fingers to the bone (creatively or not) rather than guilty because I have no motivation to do so.

Thanks M - very interesting article which sure seems to 'fit' the demise of most of us here - it's almost enough to see the words 'inflammatory' and 'cytokines'now to 'know' that we are implicated in the world of what is generally referred to as 'depression'.

Anything like 'motivation' is sure hard to find most days and I am comforted by taking advantage of my 'spoons' moments when I can rest with equanimity knowing it is often the BEST thing to do. Problem is I also still like and need to get stuff done so I carry on regardless sometimes even if the consequences are later dire.

Thing is we have to LIVE still in the face of all this 'biochemistry' and is anybody listening I wonder when so many of our medicos seem to find it difficult to even get familiar with the basics - I am feeling furious still that somebody here has a mother who lost all of her eyesight recently due to so many instances of total ineptitude.

But this has cheered me up a little - so now into the garden - weeds weeds weeds ...

Cheers for reading Rimmy! Yes, I too "like to get things done." And I feel more "normal when I am getting things done!

Is anybody listening INDEED! I can't believe that in 2019... people are still losing their eyesight to this illness! Seriously????

I just thought I was lazy. Thanks for posting M. X

in reply to SheffieldJane

Yup, me too Jane, me too!

It's a really interesting study, which is backed up by others showing that anti-inflammatory drugs can help relieve depression. Who knows where this will lead.

Who knows Mikeo999... one can only hope that more studies and research will lead to some concert answers, new treatments and cures!!!!

I think this has cheered me as I had a sewing machine bought for me last year when I couldn’t use it because of cataracts. I had been looking forward to using it and also other hobbies. As I walked around a supply shop for hobbies last week I realised I had lost the motivation to do any of this at the moment. I do other things but the creative side seems to have “ parked up” somewhere for the moment!

I hear ya!!!!!

Thank you so much for this. I feel vindicated in a way or at least less guilty about my lack of impetus and general idleness.

Like Jackoh I've lost my creative mojo, though I do still knit and read. Books and knitting aren't heavy and can be easily put aside when they become too much to cope with. I want to sew, but even the thought of preparing the fabric and cutting it out is exhausting.

More importantly, given the current state of the UK and the pivotal moment we're at, I know I should be out there and actively campaigning, but all I can do is read the articles, listen to the interviews, comment on the forums and send an occasional donation. I'm determined to go to the polling station in person on the day rather than applying for a postal vote. I love those stubby pencils which I'm sure are the same ones every time, probably for the last century. I wonder where they're stored in between elections.

Well, I have twice fallen asleep in front of Sky News this week!

Probably the best thing to do!!!

We are effectively disenfranchised which is infuriating - the likelihood of the postal vote getting here in time to be returned is minimal and proxy voting is very complex as we know no-one where we are registered so it means getting a proxy AND them getting a postal vote for us. Not that I think our vote would make a difference in Durham ...

My daughter and her husband applied for a postal vote when they were living in Australia, it arrived with them the day after the election. 🤬

Last time we drove to Austria to post it in the hope it might get back as it did have a week. Last week we got a statement posted in the town, 2 km away if that, that took a week to get here. Talk about snail mail in Italy - they are hopeless!

As part of a French lesson one of my sons watch a film about the postal service in France . His conclusion was that one man on a bike collected all the post in France one week and delivered them the following week.

Probably about right in Italy - except the delay is more like a month!

I’m with you on going to vote in person - and on the stubby pencils too. I’ve often wondered if there’s an old factory hidden away somewhere kept open only because of a government contract to keep manufacturing them......

Marijo1951 profile image
Marijo1951 in reply to Highlandtiger

No, I'm sure they're the same ancient ones stored away and brought out only when needed. Sometimes they were obviously sharpened years ago with a penknife, not even a pencil sharpener.

Highlandtiger profile image
Highlandtiger in reply to Marijo1951

Oh, that reminds me of my grandad who always used to sharpen my pencils for primary school with a penknife at the start of the school term. I’d forgotten. The voting pencils are probably from the same era! And full of lead and other toxins that aren’t allowed now....

I have a postal vote but it feels rather flat sending it off several days in advance and lacks the 'buzz' of going to do it in person, But it does ensure I vote even if I have DF on election day.

Interesting article. It does support the notion of going with the flow on this disease and not continually "fighting" it. Pushing too hard just uses up more energy.
