Had a fall yesterday resulting in some spectacular bruising and cut and grazed knees. Since I have been on pred my lower body has become weak and it feels like I am dragging a weight around. My main concern is avoiding infections as I have already had a nasty encounter with sepsis also if I get an infection I will have to withhold the tocilizumab which hopefully is containing my GCA and RA. Knees very difficult to cover with plasters and I was wondering if anyone has experience of using spray on type wound dressing.

spray on type wound dressing.
Hi teekay... That sounds nasty. I found some research about pmr and falls that argued people could relapse. I am not sure it would be the same for gca but thought it was worth saying as they recommended raising pred. As I say it may not apply but worth know generally. I hope you feel better soon.
Due to your sepsis history and the fact that you take Tocilizumab, I would advise you to see your doctor. Anti- biotics may be indicated and a professional sterile dressing applied. It must have been a shock! You may need to up the Pred a bit.
I can say from experience that spray dressings are not appropriate for all wounds and can make things worse. There are good conforming dressings around too. I’d get professional advice, especially with your infection risk.
Yes it is very good but wow it stings when you spray it on! Takes a long time to wear off but brilliant if you want to swim etc
Iodine is old-fashioned but very effective. I'd tend to go for it rather than a modern spray treatment. However I support the advice to seek help either from A&E or from your GP's practice nurse, especially if you fell on dirt or gravel.
I would not advice it unless you get one prescribed by your GP or a Dermatologist based on your Medical History , medications and infection history.
These dressings contain a number of chemical components that can cause allergy reactions , which we can be more prone to , and if you have a reaction they are hard to remove without causing extra skin damage.
You could require high quality , waterproof and breathable dressings that are hypoallergenic and although firmly sealed are easier to remove .
For this I recommend Techaderm patches , easy to put on , stretchable and used post surgery. You can wear them in the shower and even swimming and they do not move .
They are used post surgery and come in various sizes and do not itch or tug the skin.
You can get them on prescription but some GPs are reluctant to give them because of the expense. You can order them from the Chemist or online though.
I saw GP yesterday and she cleaned the wounds with saline solution, dressed them with Mepore breathable dressings and gave me some spares. Just got to keep an eye on them and change dressings. Thanks to all who responded especially Sheffield Jane who encouraged me to see GP.
