Hi All , I wrote last week about how my joint pain seemed to be getting worse especially in my sternum and across my left clavicle , those mainly but my knees wrist and elbows aren’t exactly having a jolly time at the moment , I got the result back from MRI scans on Friday on my shoulder and sternum area , I have bursitis in both my AC & SC joint, I had rotator cuff surgery about 7 years ago on both shoulder’s thankfully the one that was scanned looks in good order, consultant said the bursitis is probably what causing the chest and shoulder pain, they are going to do x ray guided injections into both joints in about 3 weeks time . I wonder if I had scans on my knees and elbows etc they would also show bursitis , the only way I have Managed to get any thing done is by going private. It looks like sadly in the future if my knee persists I may have to continue on the same path.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if your had the same issue in the knees . Perhaps you could smile and ask about that when you go in for your treatment , you may be able to avoid the private costs of the X-rays and MRI by asking them to send a letter to your job private GP or Rheumatologist advising them to do these tests for you as soon as possible , and giving them some suggestions of care of medication help in the interim and for your post injection recovery.
Good luck with it and keep updating us.
I’m ringing rheumatology in the morning as I have been waiting 11 months for an appointment finally got the Rheumy’s secretary’s number so can contact them direct, when I see them going to ask for an HPAA test I think it’s called to test my adrenal function , is that wise to do ( PMRPro ?) I will also try and get something done about my knee as it’s really getting down no literally
( hobbling on it) thanks for the advise all 👍
Do we know if Bursitis is caused by pred , osteoarthritis or both . Or can it be a condition all of its own ?
Cndition all its own I'm afraid. Had it quite a few times & cortisone shots have worked.
Did you have knee injections ? And was one enough to stop the problem or did it come back after a period of time ?
Also how long did you have to rest the joint after treatment ?
Sorry for all the questions having my left side clavicle done both ends in a couple of weeks .
Yes knee & shoulder & varies in terms of how long it lasts, but not permanent. But had bursitis quite a few times yrs before diagnosed with PMR, which I no longer have. LIght at the end of the tunnel. Last time in my knee it did not help at all, but it's worth a try I thibnk.
Bursitis isn't CAUSED by pred - pred is the cure in some cases. Not necessarily when it is part of PMR because the PMR inflamamtion is feeding the bursitis.
Bursitis can be due to PMR, overuse of the joint and injury.
