how can I sleep on my back?

I have two fractured vertebrae and need to sleep on my back, but can’t do it! Any tips? I’ve tried pillow under knees - too hot! If I ‘inadvertently’ turn on my side - it’s such an automatic reflex, I drop off straight away, but then i’m woken by pain from the ribs and pay for it next morning. A sleeping pill usually works but I save those for once a week or if something special is coming up, my GP is mean with them, has to be I think! Any ideas gratefully received.

Is there a semi propped up position that is ok for your back? I sometimes have to sleep sitting up after a bad nose bleed and find I do not turn over in that position. Only other suggestion would be pillows either side of you

That’s an idea I could try, well, both ideas. Reminds me that I can nap ok in semi reclining chair. Will give it a go. Thank you !

It's good to prop your head shoulders and upper chest within supportive but comfortable pillows .Adding a travel neck pillow on top of the head pillow and putting your head within it makes the back position feel more comfortable on your neck and head and discourages you from turning on your side .

I have what I call my " boyfriend pillow" it's a big U shaped pillow with two 6 ft " legs". They are often recommended for people in pregnancy, with Fibromyalgia, Restless Legs and Peripheral Neuropathy, OA and certain back and joint instability issues.

They are great because they keep you in a controlled position but you can raise your arms or feet and legs on the pillow legs to reduce getting too hot and find the most comfortable position for you.

I'd divorce my husband before I'd give up my pillow boyfriend! 😆😆😆😆

The longer and chunkier the better is my advice , there are various ones stocked online including Amazon and eBay , just make your choice based on reading the ratings and any other online reviews you see.

Hope that you find your Sleep Sweet spot soon, take care , Bee

I also find the extra pillows too hot. When I have to sleep on my back I generally find it easier with a flatter pillow under my head.

Me too. But don’t sleep!

I just started to read your bio - camel rodeo is something I never heard of. The people you meet and the things they have done never cease to amaze and delight me!

I have a large wedge that I pro my knees/legs up on so help my lower back and hip pain, it's almost like I am in a siting position but I am laying down..or maybe a recliner? Just pillows under the knees wasn't high enough for me, so I use the wedge.
