Hi I am wondering if anyone else has suffered from a painful thigh I’ve had pmr approx 18 months now and am on 5mg - for the last month my right thigh aches constantly it surprisingly doesn’t hurt when walking more so when I’m sitting and go to get up and eases off when moving ?

I had a painful thigh in the front on side only. My GP said it was PMR. A vascular surgeon said it was varicose veins (invisible ones) he did a procedure privately and it made no difference. My physio said it was bursitis. A stand in rheumatologist suggested I have a hip X-ray and said it was osteoarthritis. I had a CT scan and a hip replacement was suggested, which I had, and the pain went away!! I am not saying you have the same, it is just it can be difficult to actually find out the actual cause!!

Thank you for quick reply- yes it’s difficult as I just assume it’s the pmr but it’s only one side and at front and side of thigh - back at doc 3rd June I’ll mention it then lol

My aching thigh is due to trochanteric bursitis.

Odd—I’ve been googling this very thing. The front of my right thigh hurts and is kinda achey. Dr. Google says it’s most likely muscle strain, that you rest, heat, ice, and keep it elevated and do physical therapy. I figured it’s bursitis which I’ve had before in my left leg but it was on the side—this time it’s on the front. If rest doesn’t help, I’ll go back to physical therapy, she is a master at figuring things out. Hope we both find relief.

My right thigh aches and was actually numb before I started on prednisone. Then when the numbness went and feeling came back the pain was so horrendous I literally screamed out loud. Now it is just a slight ache. My Rheumatologist said it was nerve damage.

My numb thigh is from nerve impingement from my lumbar spine. MRI showed degenerated discs with nerve involvement.

Sitting and standing cause numbness whilst walking causes extreme pins and needles and sometimes weakness.

Waiting for a 2nd MRI as consultant said they didn't do all the pictures he wanted.

Hope you figure out what's causing yours x

Yes I get this intermittently. Aching like stiffness as if I've done a climb or something when I haven't. I just assume it's PMR - it does come and go. I continue to ignore it and exercise - I find exercise - brisk walks does help - nothing too strenuous. But the walking helps me emotionally and last summer when we went on a walking holiday in Dolomites we did massive climbs - 2 weeks of solid walking up to 20 km a day and never flat. I was worried it would be too much for PMR - but I never felt better. No adverse effects at all. I'm convinced that exercise like this is really good but my mind would tell me that maybe I'm being stupid and overdoing it? In fact each time the opposite occurs. However, short sharp bursts of exercise I do avoid. I was on about 6 mg at time. Now I'm lower I'm finding it harder.

The Italian side which feels more like Austria. We did the lowlands and the peaks the second week. We went with Inntravel and the places we stAyed were magnificent. Gorgeous settings off the beaten tracks, amazing food and wine. It was the best holiday ever. The scenery was magnificent every day. We went in August and weather was perfect. Not too hot as it’s higher up. We flew to Verona and began our trip by train and taxi in Sudtirol near Bolzano. We went up into the hills there and walked from various hotels to others. They transfer your luggage for you. We had a week in this area and then took the train to a higher region. If you want to know more call Inntravel. I can’t recommend them highly enough. Done about 6 holidays with them. Never disappointed!
