Mammogram recall

I have just been recalled for a second mammogram and was hoping that maybe steroids have somehow altered the density or something? Any ideas?

Hi

Have you spoken to whoever sent the letter & do you have a date for the second Mammogram?

When I was recalled it was because the machine was faulty, l asked them why they didn't say that on the letter!

It doesn’t seem to come up but even if it did, it probably wouldn’t stop the worry. It could quite easily be a processing problem. However, if they are worried about a specific area, ultrasound might be worth requesting because mammograms don’t show all problems. Indeed that’s usually the next step if they are worried, not just doing the x-ray again.

Have got a date for Thursday afternoon hopefully it’s a technical problem, thanks for such speedy replies!

That’s good, just put it to one side now until Thursday.

Do you have a good friend to go along with you?

I had my latest mammogram last month and got the letter to say no problem was detected. The last one I had was pre-PMR/GCA and I was recalled because they saw 'something'. I had very thorough ultrasound and nothing dodgy was revealed. Anyway this is just to indicate that steroids probably have no effect. Good luck, I hope you get the all clear.

Probably calling you back out of just an abundance of caution.

My husband read mammograms for 28 years. It’s tricky, because breasts are gnarly lumpy things and normal and not normal are not far apart.

If the tech doesn’t get a perfect image, the radiologist might ask for another.

Or if something looks a bit odd, they may want to visualize it another way (ultrasound, MRI). Probably nothing to worry about.

Try not to stress about it till there’s a reason to.

All the best - do please keep us up-to-date on how you do.

Can't offer really knowledgeable support - my experience was from the other side of the sheet in a research project. But I still have a beautiful fruit bowl a patient brought me for persuading her to have the r/t as she had decided she wan't going to as it would stop her doing her volunteering for the duration and that would be unfair to her housebound ladies. r/t was on the 3rd floor and she came to me after on the 7th - measuring her fatigue by being able to manage the stairs not take the lift! She never failed - and was grateful she had in fact done all she could to up the likelihood of continuing to do it in the future.
