Any issues having PMR, taking pred and having pneumonia and shingles jab?

Has anyone had any issues having these jabs and PMR? My main concern relates to having the jabs in my achy shoulders and just want to hear what you have experienced.

Thank you

No specific issues with having vaccines and Pred ..I had 4 flu vaccines when on high dose for GCA.

But would say if your arms are achy then perhaps your PMR isn’t as well controlled as it should be… so I’d be more worried about that.

Thanks for reply. My arms are ok and only feel the ache when I stretch to pick things up but very manageable. Glad no issues with the jabs. Just concerned they would exacerbate any aches I may have.

Shouldn’t do… other than normal reaction after any vaccine -so paracetamol for a couple of days afterwards. ..and leave time between them -so not pneumonia and first shingles on same day

Shingrix vaccine comes in two applications - so 2-6 months between them.

I am having both of these within 10 min of each other. I asked about the safety and they said they have no concerns.

Safety wise might be okay 🤔 - but it’s a double assault on your immune system -so I’d say no, thank you,

And as SheffieldJane says the Shingrix vaccine as it’s non-live… although you might have a fight on your hands on age grounds…

BTW, when the first AZ vaccine was administered I was informed by the pharmacist doing it not to take Ibuprofen because it could retard/diminish the immune response.

Okay that's not something I'd thought of, but I don't take ibuprofen tabs - on blood pressure tabs... do occasionally use gel for OA etc, but very rarely.

Interestingly - while there are severeal such claims to be found all over the internet, a rather more founded articles says not,

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

says

",,, there is no evidence that these changes impact vaccine efficacy. Specific data on the impact of analgesic/antipyretic medications on immunogenicity of COVID-19 vaccines are limited. However, available data from clinical trials of licensed vaccines, along with recommendations from public health bodies around the world, should provide reassurance to both healthcare professionals and vaccine recipients that short-term use of analgesics/antipyretics at non-prescription doses is unlikely to affect vaccine-induced immunity."

Is ibuprofen classed as an “analgesic/antipyretic medication”?

My understanding, which admittedly is pretty low in relation to human biology and pharmacology, is that ibuprofen acts on inflammation (blocking receptors?) and I also though an inflammatory response to vaccine was good as it stimulated an immune response. Isn’t that why adjuvants are added for us ‘oldies’?

Yes, the anti inflammatory properties may be weaker than some other NSAIDs but it does have a major analgesic and antipyretic role. Most things have multiple modes of action which can vary a bit from one drug to anothr

The main issue is ensuring that your Shingles Jab is not the live vaccine, because you are immunosuppressed. I believe the one we have is called Shingrix , please name check - all my proper nouns are departing. The painful achy shoulders do sound as if you need a bit more Pred, this is a classic symptom of a flare for some people. A good vaccine person and you don’t feel anything from the jab in my experience.

Sorry. My shoulders are not painful but just feel uncomfortable at times where I stretch for things or lift . I have had no worse feelings while I reduce slowly the pred but get what you are saying. I will confirm I have the shingrex though. Cant say no now as having both at 2pm today.

Apparently they do not offer the live one anymore according to the nurse I saw. Glad to hear!!

I have had my Shingrix vaccinations. The first I was shivery and achey the day after and the second I was just achey the day after.

I had the Covid and flu jabs 2 weeks after my first Shingrix with no problems at all

All solved. The nurse recommended she make another appointment for my pneumonia jab in two weeks and to just have the non live shingles jab today . Thanks everyone.
