Some of you may have noticed some discussion about the recall of ranitidine and we thought we would post about it for those who haven't since we know a lot of people do use it instead of a PPI.
To put it in context - the amounts of the potential carcinogen that were found in the drugs are probably comparable to or less than crispy bacon or a well done steak!
However, some people might like to check with their pharmacy as to whether their particular brand is involved in the recall and what alternatives they have.
I will try to keep this thread up to date as the story develops.

Yes, I've never heard of those names. In the UK they are usually sold as ranitidine, clearly marked on the pack, if they aren't Zantac, it is the only brand listed for the UK. For example, Boots call it "Indigestion and heartburn relief" and ranitidine appears clearly on the front of the box.
I'd had a serious stomach bleed, is there any other kind, back in 1992 (needed 3 pints) because of too much IBUPROFEN after and ankle fracture and surgery (s).(whew, long time ago!!) Since that time I had never taken an asprin, Aleve, etc.
When I was diagnosed with GCA in August...they put me on 325 mg asprin and two Ranitidine per day. I was very concerned when I heard the above having dealt with cancer in my life. I immediately contacted the hospital pharmacy I use and they told me 'it was only the capsules not the tablets.' I took their word....do I know if it is true? Nope...but so far so good. I also take Dexilant 60mg per day.
You know what....considering the shape I am in.....I'm in pretty darn good shape~!!
News Flash....I am going to try to crochet for the first time since August.....super simple, got the tools so let's see.
