Ayurvedic medicine

Hi all, I’ve just booked into an Ayurverdic Hospital in India for 3 weeks to see if this can help me. Has anyone had any experience with this natural form of medicine? I will still be on Prednisone whilst I’m there. I’m on 5mg.

How exciting! I will be very interested to hear how you get on with this very different way of looking at disease in the body.

Please do report back.

Yes I will. I’m very excited. Eyes wide open and no unrealistic expectations. I don’t go until 16th May and return 9th June. I’ll have limited internet while I’m there so don’t expect proper feedback until after then. 🙏🏻

It is probably going to make you feel worse before better as most of these things do. Obviously depended on the therapies. Good luck and take enough pred...just in case🌻

If you are still taking 5mg of prednisone while you are in India, how can you tell if it's the treatment in India or the prednisone which is making you feel better 🙏

YuliK

Whatever, have a great time and I wish you good luck with your venture.

Thanks YuliK. I don’t expect to be cured in 3 weeks, I intend to continue with the Ayurvedic protocol I’m given for the following 3-6 months and see where this takes me. If it enables me to taper off Pred in this time frame then I’ll be over the moon!!! My previous attempts to taper using the Slow Nearly Stop method haven’t worked and have left me having to go back up which is why I’m on 5mg now. 🙏🏻

Important thing to remember is, that a lot of our reducing can be withdrawal symptoms. Well done that you have managed to reduce to 5mg.

Have a great time, maybe you have room for me in your suitcase. Those Indian massages are wonderful., I'm jealous. 🌷

And if the underlying cause of the PMR symptoms is still active you will need the amount of pred you need. 5mg is a common level to be at for a while. It doesn't matter HOW slowly you reduce, when you get the level you need the next reduction will result in a return of symptoms.

I wouldn't mind some of those massages with those penetrating oils. Lucky you. 👍

I have no experience of ayurvedic medicine, but I really look forward to hearing how you get on!

We have a whole health clinic here and it focuses on homeopathy. I tried it and it helped me but you have to stick to it like anything (and believe in it).

I am perfectly serious not being flippant...distraction is a powerful tool in chronic illness. Without the tool of distraction, whether that distraction is radio,tv, grandchildren, forums, yoga etc we would be in a far worse state some days. Everyone (hopefully) finds a good distraction at some point.

Keep us informed...I’ve taken astragalus, holy basil, ashwagonda (sp?) in the past and had good luck boosting immune system with astragalus,,,but I’m somewhat afraid to try it again because “modern” medicine says you shouldn’t take immune system boosters while having troubles like PMR...confusing to me...tell us what these people say about it...

Why confusing? The immune system is overreacting - it is already "boosted".

so you don't want a strong immune system? My Dr couldn't explain it at all...im going to try to find an article I read that said its basically bullcrap that you shouldn't try to have a strong immune system when you have an auto-immune thing going on....for myself I'm ordering some Astragalus as I've taken it for years every winter and never had the flu or bad cold...my wife did in-house child care and I was shift work...my immune system should have been weak as hell....my Dr said "give it a try" and if my symptoms of PMR get worse I'll simply stop..ITS ALL SO CONFUSING!! But hey, its spring in Michigan, and I feel pretty good...I think my OA is causing more stiffness than the PMR at this point..

in reply todaworm

As i understand it your immune system is so strong and whacked out its attacking you. Theres no way i am going to boost mine otherwise i have wasted 3 years trying to stop it chewing on me.

You are taking pred which is damping down the activity of the immune system - most reputable supplements, such as echinacea for example, say it shouldn't be taken together with steroids. They are doing opposing things.
