Polywotsit ,

in our profiles there is a DoB section wich has a private checkbox.

Could the developers do a search for birthdays and create a post from that?

It would also mean updating the profile to advise people that if the checkbox is left unticked, then they would get a shout out. Also a broadcast message would need to go to all members advising of the change and giving people time to adjust their preferance.

THis would mean birthdays posts aren't needed and a new pinned post could be created to replace the previous oneand it would not need anybody to create a new post. Being an automated process it could eb run more frequently than monthly.

Maybe even stock replies could be added instead of an open comments box. That would mean moderators wouldn't need to check the post as it has limited replies that can be made.

I know the above is easy to say and doing is much more difficult, but if any developments can be made, then we have a chance to improve and grow the forum.

Bear in mind it isn't just PMRGCAuk on the HU platform - and given the problems one often experiences on any platform getting developers to sort out problems it may not be an option.

Indeed it may not be an option, but without asking it never will be.

As for other forum, well it could be a configuration option for the each one. On or off and only post for those that have their DoB public.

Whatever happens, there should be contact between the developers and those using it, that is the furums not the users.

Is it only me that worries about identity theft? Probably because I am a millionaire. 😂

It's pretty obvious that the site wants to have a different profile than what we members have given it.

And that is fine.

It would be nice if we could get our view through to those making decisions. Then they can be looked at and passed on the the people running the site. This isn't a social media site like Facebook and it does need its own set of rules. The trouble with rules is the interpretation of them.

If there was an ideas box, maybe it could help the administration of this forum.

What sounds like a simple idea is for us to be able to turn off commenting on out posts. A little thing, but can save a lot of admin time.

Getting the code written and tested can take time, how do the developers work, I would hope it's now some form or agile development, but that isn't for us to worry about. We should be looking for ways to improve the forum and make life easier for the administration of it.

Maybe you should also consider there are a lot of people who use the forum who had become unhappy about how the site had changed. Believe it or not, I have to say I have had more contacts saying they are happier now Kate has taken things back to how it was set up originally than people are complaining. So has Kate.

I think a bit of thought about how the the site appears to new members is needed.

Hello Julian,

I see where you are coming from. However, I think it's highly unlikely that the HU developers would ever use dates of birth in this way. I believe they only collect any such data for research and reporting purposes. Sending out birthday messages would not be a priority from where they are standing. It's also probably fair to say that most people on this forum aren't that fussed anyway about getting birthday messages from people they don't know personally.

The ability to turn off replying for members themselves is a good one. Sometimes you just want to make a point without then having to keep track of lots and lots of comments that appear on the thread. This suggestion is one we are putting forward.

Best wishes

K
