We all know how boring it can be sometimes NOT being able to exert energy and do more physical things - sometimes when we feel like it !! And I am a wee bit 'nuts' as most of you may have gathered by now and I hopefully share my 'insanity' (I know) with some others here who have fascinated us constantly with their wonderful contributions even when very unwell themselves. 'Creativity' is of course also an escape - the results of which - much of the time I bury in a drawer so (hopefully) nobody ever has to see them !!
I have however spent 3 years on and off on this rather 'vernacular' (no 'rules') tapestry effort using up bags of unused threads from op shops etc. It is derived from an Edmund Dulac illustration for the Arabian Nights (1911). It is of course a mere shadow (and never intended as an 'exact copy') of the exquisite illustration I was originally entranced by. Anyway it will be reincarnated as a cushion or some such and one day hopefully be a 'memory' of a rather hazy PMR/GCA period in my life. Best wishes most especially to all of you 'mad ones' out there - and you know who you are !!! (LOL)

You're right to be proud of this lovely creation and right to stress the value of creativeness while we are ill. My main creative outlet is knitting, often for charity. I took a blanket and several garments to Knit for Peace recently and got 'Knit of the day' for the second time, much to my delight.
I daily experience the frustration of having to hold back on what I do.
I am one of those who was complaining that their creativity had left them with PMR. If this were mine it would still be lurking, unfinished in a drawer. It' beautiful Rimmy, and it's finished!

Yes that’s what I find now - used to do all sorts of needlework/crafty type of thing, but monosight makes it very difficult and therefore a lot less enjoyable.
The original is SO beautiful - one of my favourite of Dulac's illustrations - and I love the muted colours - I perhaps could have been more subtle myself but I had so many colourful threads at hand ....
But when I think of Arabian Nights I think colour !...not that I'm in the least bit artistic or know anything about art or artists...!...just know when i like the look of something...di
OH RIMMY! You did that? It's magnificent!!!! Really beautiful!!!! Three years??? Wow, see I do not have that discipline... If I have the urge to write... I have to do it right then and there and finish it, in one go. I don't eat, drink, use the toilet... I just have to write, until it is finished... and then I walk away for an hour for so, until I go back and edit, edit, edit. That is why I do not think I could write a book... like a real book. I"m not disciplined enough to write and let it be... It is beautiful, what a GREAT accomplishment! 👍🏻 ❤️
Lovely Rimmy, my MIL did lots of embroidery including church vestments so can appreciate the effort this took quite apart from the talent. We all have pictures (I use the term loosely) that she embroidered and my daughter was the best dressed toddler in town. Don’t hide your talent. 😊
Goodness some of those church vestments are utterly incredible and I have great admiration for them. As I can never seem to follow 'rules' and classical techniques and approaches - to most things I stand in awe of those who can produce such highly 'perfected' work !
It's funny how people who are talented at subjects like maths are really skilled at precise arts like music and certain crafts.
My OH is a Maths Examiner and he is really skilled at origami and fractal paper sculptures , takes a precision and patience I could never master.
He and my daughter did the 1000 cranes challenge ( making those origami cranes) I amused them with my effort.

constantly needing instruction until the 13th ended up in a scrumpled pile and got thrown at the wall. I obviously don't have the right zen when it comes to precise paper folding.
I did paint or sketch on about 800 of them though.
Language skills are another great skill , not so much to do with listening skills though, it's having the sort of brain that can think in various languages automatically , most of us struggle because we can't and try to translate what we hear into our first language then work out how to translate what we think into a response.
It takes brain training if you are not born with the talent which is why it is good to start children speaking in other languages at an early age , so that the skill becomes natural.
Well done Rimmy that's quite an achievement .I'm on my 6th blanket/throw. I taught myself to crochet a year ago ...it keeps me sane...crochet therapy!🤣😁
Wow Rimmy!! Your work is beautiful. You must have an amazing amount of patience and obviously are very creative. I agree with others, it’s too good to be used as a cushion. It would look lovely on a wall. Hats off to you. What next?
I’m knitting my first polo neck sweater using circular needles for the neck for the first time 😱I’ve reknitted the left front neck line 3 times so far. PMR/Pred seems to have made me incapable of counting stitches accurately. Picking up stitches along a row is ok, but picking them up along an edge is a nightmare 😱😱. Seeing your completed work has inspired me to keep going. Xxx

I always have 'something' going on - knitting, embroidery or whatever - and I usually work in my own 'original' way with all handicrafts although of course I do know things like basic stitches and techniques for knitting. I am currently finishing a pale sea green jumper with a great mini cable stitch (no cable needle and only 4 rows) one of my favourite easy knit stitches which is great for stretch across a garment. I love knitting the most and now usually make up my own patterns - but with relative degrees of success. I also love fairisle knits but only do that stuff occasionally now. Anyway DO persevere with your project - you WILL get there !!
Hi Rimmy. Thank you for your encouragement. I finally cracked the neck problem and have just finished knitting the jumper. Now for trying to stitch it all together - another challenge!! Depending on how successful I am, perhaps a photo to follow. Xx
I had enough trouble counting stitches even before PMR/ Pred .
I even have the stitch markers , but then I forget where they are , or how many stitches I should be counting.
It's been a long standing joke in our house , if the kids walked in while I was knitting ( and I had my head down bouncing the spare needle along the stitches ) the OH , would shout , ' " Watch out , don't get too close , your Mother's counting!" xx
WOW thats takena lot of work .I used to do tapestry when my mum was ill and I had a lot of quiet sitting time .It was theraputic ,It does occupy hours and the good thing is you can just pick it up when you want can't you . Gives you something to concentrate on .You have done a beautiful job there .
Not really My hands are awkward with atheritis. When I have the opportunity and am in the mood. I have started quilting. Sewing with the machine is OK for me. Learning from YouTube

What a wonderful achievement Rimmy. I have been looking today at something called Slow Art which encourages people to spend more time looking at a piece of art work instead of a brief time and how much more rewarding it is so I have been having a long look at what you have done and it is lovely. I could not survive without knitting at the moment as I cannot go out very much so I knit 'Trauma teddies' for distressed children and 'Twiddle Muffs' for dementia patients and so feel at least my day has some sort of meaning. Wow , art therapy for you and knowing you are giving something back to others is the best sort of crafting with an illness like this, gives you something to do when you can't get out and helps your mental health from the well being you feel that you are making other people lives better. I think it’s great that you’re knitting for distressed children and dementia patients. I’m sure they really benefit from the bears and muffs. Have you thought about knitting tiny hats for premature babies? Keep up the great work!
