Suffering with flu!

I am really cursing for not having a flu vaccine. I did go to the doctors twice and for various reasons they could not do it and as I havn't had flu since I was in my 20's I was stupid and didn't get it done. Now boy do I regret that. I had forgotten how ill it makes you feel. On the plus side I am hardly eating and have lost 4 pounds. Feeling very sorry for myself. My Son also has it now. Couldnt go out to a special New Years do I had arranged as my husbands Christmas present. I have certainly learnt my lesson. Am on immune supressant drugs so I guess that didnt help! (Actemra for GCA)

Poor you Christine! I hope you recover soon. I had the jab but the more specific one was only available to older people, so I don’t know how protected I am.

So sorry darling. I had flu 18 months ago. It was ghastly. Thinking of you xxxx

I hope you feel better soon!! Did you temporarily stop the Actemra until the infection passes? That is what they recommend I do in that situation. Feel better soon!

Fortunately I am taking Actemra 3 weekly and have 10 days to go so hopefully ok by then. Many thanks to all the kind wishes.

Guess what. I HAD the flu shot and am now just recovering from the flu. Got it really bad. 102 temperature, and uncontrollable vomiting. Had to go hospital for intravenous fluids and Tamifu ad other meds. Was totally wiped out by it for more than a week. Like you, I haven't had flu since I was a kid. Amazingly I missed two days of my 17.5mg dose, but didn't get any PMR symptoms during this. Sorry you had to go through this too!

When I read your article I really felt for you - I would never wish the flu on anyone.

I have only had two flu injections in my long life - when I was young flu injections were never heard of - all you have to do is keep up your intake of natural vitamen C about 3 months before winter sets in. I have just been reading how Vitamen D is very effective against the flu - apparently it works better than the flu vaccine if your levels are low. Worth a try. I have been taking Vitamen D now for quite some time - works wonders for me.

Glad you haven't taken on the flu in years, and vitamins when taken appropriately are good for us, but the notion that vitamins will ward off or cure a virus is simply poppycock.

Get the shot.

Chicken Soup is great advice used it many times over the years. For your info I have had two virus's in my body for a number of years and all the doctors can recommend is antibiotics which are no good for you long term so I take Tumeric mixed with crushed black Peppercorns and I have never felt better. I have been on Thryoxine for 40 years as they mistakenly gave me an overdose of Radio Active Iodine so that Is why I take alternative medicine when I can,

If they are viruses, antibiotics are useless. It is doctors using abx for viral infections that contributes to resistance. And all the stuff in meat...

Antibiotics are useless against viruses, but are sometime legitimately used prophylactically to ward off opportunistic infections in those especially vulnerable.
