Aches from flu jab s/e?

kangaroojohn profile image
43 Replies

I am now on 1mg pred daily and was without any physical symptoms until last Wednesday, after a flu jab. During Weds night, on walking to the bathroom, I felt the same aches in my thighs as before pred and I thought "here we go again".

But by the next morning, and until now, these symptoms have gone.

These aches could have been due to an immune response to the flu jab (though I have not had any s/e before) or some exacerbation of the PMR caused by the jab. I would be grateful for any comments-thanks.

Probably just a reaction to the jab - try paracetamol if aches reappear.

Could be side effects of flu jab.. I always take paracetamol [paramol/acamol?] 24-48 hours after any vaccine .. advice given by practice nurse many years ago.

If they have now gone, it does sound as if that’s what they, so fingers crossed.

Hiya, had my flu jab Saturday, not bothered me before but this one made me feel totally washed out and very achey, especially in arm where the javelin went in.feel a lot better today but this years DEFINATELY affected me.Took paracetomol before and after on advice of DL but in my case didn’t help, but then maybe it would have been worse if I hadn’t.Lucky it is only once a year eh?💊😳😜

Aaah, but I think I was a lost cause. It was sometimes said by my awful stepfather” never before has a girl known so little about so much” Think I went on to prove him wrong eventually!xx🤣😜

What a thing to say to you. I am glad you proved him wrong. I proved my teachers wrong and studied with the O.U.

Yep,he was a really awful man,but very good to my mother which was the main thing. When somebody constantly puts you down,it gives you the spur to do something with your life, which is why I left home asap. Can I ask whatOU is?Is it Oxford University? If it is ,well done you!xx🌼🌼😜

It is Open University and I managed it while working full time. It really changed my life. Oxford Uni would have have been great.

Don’t decry what you have done, well done you, what were you studying?Hope this change in weather hasn’t affected your health overall?Feeling it in my joints a bit,OH wants heating on all the time,I can’t bear it,happy compromise of 21 degrees but still far too hot for me.xx😳🌼😜

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toAngelsmummy

I had that too - he could have his room like the tropics and he wouldn't come and join me because no other heating was on so it was too cold!! But I had to practically strip of to go into his when he needed help and even then it made me feel ill if I was in there more than a few minutes. My heating bill halved after he died!

Angelsmummy profile image
Angelsmummy in reply toPMRpro

Glad it isn’t just me then.,No heating on at moment but am sitting in longe with Tee shirt and leggings, feel SO hot.OH wearing thermal vest, thick shirt and scarf around his neck, seems to be a permanent fixture for him nowadays!Still as long as he is comfy ,so what?Does pred/ reducing pred make one feel this way cos it certainly ain’t the menopause?xxxxxx🌼😜🥵

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toAngelsmummy

At the time I wasn't reducing my pred - I needed over 15mg to function and care for him alone. He didn't have an ounce of spare fat on him - just skin and bone. No wonder he was cold. His mother was the same - I'm cold so turn the heating up. Me - I get a blanket.

Angelsmummy profile image
Angelsmummy in reply toPMRpro

Must have been hard for you.My OH is middle stage dementia, the worse to come I guess. He has lost a lot of weight so obvs that is why he is cold all the time.So I can’t blame my intolerance to heat on pred then? Will have to see what thyroid blood tests say when I get them back.xx🌼😜

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toAngelsmummy

Well you COULD. Pred probably doesn't help!

Right,ok.LOVED the heat ,sun, before I got GCA etc, could lay out in it all day but not now.!shade or short bursts outside is all I can tolerate now.Not a worry now,WINTER is on its way!xx😱🌼😜

No, I don't do lying in the sun now but a hot room really finishes me off.

Tell me about it.,Cannot wait to take dogs out for their ablutions in garden just to breathe fresh air,I open windows ,he shuts them.Bedtime is my relief,Jim jams off ,ceiling fan on PEACE!xx😴😴😴🌼😜

Thank you. I studied art history with a bit of social science. It took eight years to finish but was great . The change of weather also makes my joints ache and I quite often feel worse in the winter. My OH likes the heating on, I find it a bit , much as well and creep around turning the radiators down. 👍 It must be a different type of heat as I like it very warm on the summer.

Angelsmummy profile image
Angelsmummy in reply toKASHMIRI1

Wonderful! You must have felt such a sense of achievement.Funny how lots of us feel the same about the heating side of things, perhaps it is the pred or maybe the condition, who knows?Your forum name, are you from Kashmir?Met a few Kashmiris when we were in Goa ,one became a friend.Dont get sussed out turning the rads down will you?xx🤣🌼😜

It was wonderful to go up and receive my diploma and wear the OU gown. I am not from Kashmir I live in the New Forest my name comes from my much loved Arabian horse who unfortunately passed about ten years ago. I had the pleasure of her company for well over 20 years. She was a joy and a good friend. I miss her every day.

Angelsmummy profile image
Angelsmummy in reply toKASHMIRI1

I bet it was,a reward after all your hard work!Shame about your horse, one never gets over losing a much loved pet does it,part of your family.Everytime we lose a dog,(many over the years) we always say no more, but lo and behold a new fur baby appears !Never replaces what you have lost but a chance to fill the hole that is left and something else to love and care for.Beautiful name for your horse by the way.mxx🌼🐎😜Another HOT night, just hope my ceiling fan doesn’t give up the ghost after all the hard work it is doing!🤣

I had a cool evening as my OH went out to folk club. Recently my friend lost a much loved cat and said thats it no more. In under two weeks she had a rescue kitty called Poppy who is currently wrecking the house and being very well loved.

Angelsmummy profile image
Angelsmummy in reply toKASHMIRI1

See what I mean? The home is a lonely place without a pet to care for if animals are part of your life.No way I would replace our 2 cats or 2 dogs if anything happened to them now,Too much on plate with OH and his dementia,BUT ,if I lost my chihuahua I would eventually get an older rescue little dog as could not face training a pup now.Glad you had a cool night with OH out of way,🤣Xx🌼😜

My mum went from having puppy Yorkshire terriers to getting rescue dogs one called Bob was a poor little scared thing and bit all the men in the family. He was ok with women though. Mum got him because he was such a sad little thing and had been in the dog home the longest. I was wondering how you named yourself on this friendly site it a lovely name

Angelsmummy profile image
Angelsmummy in reply toKASHMIRI1

Angel was my beautiful Yorkshire Terrier who I lost a few years ago.😪She was sold on to me as her owners could not cope with her.She was only 16 weeks. She became very ill shortly afterwards, needed a liver shunt operation.Had to be done by a European vet who flew in to UK once a fortnight to operate on difficult cases. He told me that the offending vessel was width wise smaller than a human hair! She survived and carried on to live a long happy life, terrorising my German Shepherds!Feisty little thing but my little Angel.Funny how “Bob” bit all the men in the family and left the women alone! They sense things, maybe he was badly treated by a man and looked on all men as a threat eh?Hope you are feeling ok this morning? It is a lottery every morning when we open our eyes what sort of day we will have eh?Love this time of morning, dogs fed, parrot cleaned out,now have half hour of peace before I have to get OH his brekkie.xx🌼😜

Posh was my beautiful border/Jack Russell terrier. I had her for 15 years and the hole she has left gets no smaller. She, too, terrorised her companion, an enormous male Springer spaniel - when she wasn't being dug out of rabbit holes! Shall miss her forever xx

Funny how our names represent the animals we have loved and lost.True is the saying “Beware of little dogs “ Even when she had to have nearly all her teeth out,she would still go in for the kill, she just gummed you to death.,She sounds awful but she wasn’t,loving faithful, just wanted to let her big doggie companions know that she was THE BOSS!Terriers are renowned for it as you well know.As you say,a hole in the heart that can never be filled.😪

Exactly, she was wonderful, no fear at all! The Spaniel was called Reckless but he wasn't at all! Xx

Many rescues have been abused by men in the past, it is a common thread.

Angelsmummy profile image
Angelsmummy in reply toPMRpro

Let’s hope we don’t open up a can of worms here but I am totally in agreement. My present shepherd is wary of men,his breeder was a domineering 🤬🤬to his wife, and I think the pups picked up on this.I should have walked away from buying but no way could I leave my boy in that situation.A lot of money work and time has gone into “ moulding “ him into what he is today, but would never trust him if anybody broke in!😱🌼🌼😜

My daughter's rescues have all been Podencos - Spanish hunting dogs, all with male hunters. But all of them loved my husband and would push to sit on the sofa next to him!! He was definitely NOT a dog person ...

Angelsmummy profile image
Angelsmummy in reply toPMRpro

Bless, the dog probably picked up positive, nice vibes from your OH and felt safe with him.Dogs are like humans, they know who they like and who they dislike.Same when my son in law takes my GSD out, some dogs he will happily wag his tail at but others ,the hackles raise and he is not a happy bunny.plus,he is very receptive to OH if he is having a bad day,he will not go near him,but if I am having an off day,he is near me the whole time.Very receptive!x🌼😜

Angel sounds a little darling. What a big operation for a wee little Yorkie. They are feisty things, mum used to breed them and they where a lovely breed to have around and well up to long walks and all very different. Angel sounds just lovely. You are so right about never knowing what each morning will bring to us. I had a blood test first thing then a walk round a National Trust property today but know that tomorrow will be a lower key day. And the vaccination day.

Angelsmummy profile image
Angelsmummy in reply toKASHMIRI1

She was a little darling,it broke my heart when I had to have her put to sleep, still cry for her now, even though I have 2 beautiful other dogs.Hope you had a lovely walk round the National Trust place today,as you say,you will probably really feel it tomorrow, try and have a nice restful day tomorrow eh.,Hope your blood test comes back ok!So your mum used to breed Yorkies, were they miniatures like Angel? As you say, they love long walks, and run like hell!Had my bloods back today,BNP good and thyroid normal so am guessing the feeling dizzy on standing and bending over is probably the adrenal glands trying to kick in or my blood pressure which is a bit low.Who knows?Doc said it isn’t adrenal glands as I am on 5 and 1/2 mg so plenty of cortisone going into my body!!!What do I know eh?Did a little bit of leaf clearing up today but an hour was plenty, glad to get in I tell you.Anyway, enough of my moaning, all in the same boat ain’t we eh?xx🌼🌼😜🍂🍁🍂🦔

The National trust was lovely and the sun even came out making the acers look beautiful. Mums Yorkie female was quite big for a Yorkie and such a character. She didnt have many litters and they were mainly small dogs. She kept one that had turned out to be very stocky and little and her fur stayed black, she loved my little brother and he called her Willie Baxter I am not sure how on earth he came up with that. She would get in bed with him and follow him around and beg to get in his bike basket and have a ride. He put a blanket in for her and off they would go. Good that your test results came back ok. I am taking 4.5 mg pred and have the dizzy feeling I think we are both maybe in adrenal territory.

Angelsmummy profile image
Angelsmummy in reply toKASHMIRI1

So glad you had a great time.Acers are beautiful aren’t they, our two in pots, are now losing their leaves but what a beautiful show they have put on all summer, the most glorious red. When they are bare I know that winter is ready to greet us!You are lower than me on pred, and if you have the dizzy feeling then guess it is our bodies trying to get back to work but my doc said no to me at 5 and 1/2 mg.Hope other than that you are ok?Bet the New Forest looks lovely this time of the year too!Got the heating on this morning!!😱🌼😜xxx

my daughter who works for NHS Scotland education and training and provides the guidance on the vaccines flu and covid tells me that is a positive sign. I am now down to 2.5mg pred and for the first time had an aching arm and tiredness and spent the next day in bed from the covid vaccine. I asked if it had been changed and yes it has but she reckons that my immune system must be getting better.

Hi, I had my flu jab at lunch time on Thursday, felt fine until Thursday around 9am. Started aching all over, abdominal pain and from about 10pm vomited just about every hour until 8 in the morning. Slept on and off the full day Friday. and into the evening. I def feel a good bit better this morning. I’m currently on 6mgs of pred. I’m not sure if these symptoms were a continence or it was something to do with my immune system. I have my flu jab every year and can honestly say I have never felt like that. It would make me wary about taking it again.
