Prominent vein on my forehead.

This is new I think although I have grown out my teenage fringe so see my forehead more. It looks like a bump, about an inch in diameter and feels soft. I often get headaches, tonight’s was a belter at the back of my head, but I’ve been sleeping on 3 pillows because my nose feels totally blocked at night, so it could be from my neck. There is never much excitement when I drag myself to the GP. I know that my Rheumatologist used to feel my temples for prominent veins. Should I be worried?

Hi Jane,

I got soft lumps in earlier days of PMR (diagnosed Feb 2018). They were quite tender and were gone the next day. I assumed they were blood vessels. There were about three, back from the temples on separate occasions, and also a couple on top of my head. Haven’t noticed one for about 3 or 4 months. Always worried me re GCA.

Cheers Marea

is it part of your temple muscle that is enlarged (swollen)?

I have a dent on the left side of my forehead - wasn't there before PMR, but then I woke up one morning and my left thigh was completely black with bruises so it may have happened then.

Likely, the steroids causing the bruising; I had an episode of spontaneous bruising of my whole right thigh. Had no idea how it happened. No injury, etc. Dermatologist took a biopsy; came back hypersensitivity reaction, but it went away over time. Steroids cause the skin to be very fragile.

An inch is biggish for a blood vessel.

Not yet my daughter and sil leave the little ones and run on one pretext or another. We’re happy, Granny and her boys. I’ll inspect the damage when they’ve all gone home.

Ok fair enough. But if it starts to hurt or other stuff happens you will go? Xxx

Sounds like it could be neck strain if you’re not used to having three pillows! See how it goes with pain killers - see your doctor if it persists. I get that if I sleep awkwardly and get hubby to massage my neck, if the muscles are taught that’s usually the culprit and it is painful. Hope you get some relief..... and enjoy every minute of those little ones xxxxx

Try putting the pillows under the mattress - not on top.
