headache in middle of forehead.

I had a root canal procedure a week and a half ago. Since that time, I’ve had a headache that comes and goes in the middle of my forehead between my eyebrows The root canal dentist prescribed an antibiotic to rule out a sinus problem resulting from the procedure, but I was also checked out by a neuro Opthalmologist who did not see any signs of GCA. My headaches come and go. I have no jaw involvement and my esr and crp have always been normal even before starting prednisone., but the headaches are still “coming and going”. Does anyone have any thoughts? I am presently on 13 mg of pred just raised from 8 mg two weeks ago at the suggestion of Dorsett Lady, but I was going to start tapering back to 8 tomorrow.

They don't seem to be obviously GCA - and you don't have any other GCA type symptoms, it probably will be okay to reduce.. but what about the shoulder/neck issues you mentioned in previous dose... have they gone?

If so, it might be worth trying ordinary painkillers and see if headaches are helped... and agree with any new headache needs a full investigation

In your place I would want more tests. Headaches can have many causes. A head MRI springs to mind, possibly an ultrasound even an X Ray. Your dentist/doctor seem to have come to a pretty quick conclusion. I am used to a Rheumatologist who leaves no stone unturned. My first thought was an injury from the dental work. Pred could relieve inflammation even if it isn’t PMR. It just seems a bit odd.

I definitely think more investigation is needed - she said hopefully!!

Agree with the others that further investigation would be sensible. I do suffer from sinuses at times but have never had the pain where you describe, mine will appear as swollen/painfull area at the top of my nose spreading into the the areas either side and under my eyes.

My first thought is sinus pain, especially if it was an upper tooth that was root canal treated.Did the dentist take an xray?I would return to him if it was me .

Thanks for all your replies. I have a follow up appt at the neuro Opthalmologist office today and an ENT appt on Weds. I have a vacation planned starting 11/8 which will include several long flights and a long cruise. I’m a bit nervous about flying with my headache challenge but I cannot cancel.
